‘Disheartening’ – Capello and Sacchi give opinions on Milan’s start under Fonseca

By Oliver Fisher -

Fabio Capello and Arrigo Sacchi have tipped Inter to defend the Scudetto, while admitting their surprise at AC Milan’s difficult start under Paulo Fonseca.

Milan have not had a good beginning to their new era as they have taken just two points from a possible nine under Fonseca. A 2-2 draw against Torino (in which the Rossoneri were 2-0 down) was followed by a 2-1 defeat in Parma and another 2-2 draw against Lazio.

The expectation was that Milan would pick up some early wins to build confidence and some momentum, yet after the Venezia game which follows the international break there is the daunting double-header of Liverpool (in the Champions League) and Inter to come.

Capello and Sacchi gave an interview to La Gazzetta dello Sport and the central theme was the start of the Serie A season with Milan struggling, Inter the favourites and Juventus impressing as well. Their comments were relayed by Radio Rossonera.

Capello: “Our Milan surprises me, Arrigo. After a year of an unbalanced team, little order and many goals conceded, they started again in the same way, without balance. And they are already chasing Inter.”

Sacchi: “I was deluded by watching the first half of the match against Lazio. It seemed to me that they were moving reasonably well. I was wrong, the second half was disheartening. A team that didn’t move as a team. Without pressing, even if in Italy few teams do real pressing. They go in moments. And if you do it like that the others don’t struggle.”

Capello: “The preseason? Opponents with a name, but without big names. Games of little value.”

Sacchi: “I don’t watch the pre-season games, not even one. It’s just a waste of time.”

  1. Please play
    4.3.1.2
This formation is the best one in the world
We won many champion leagues many same finals when Carlo anceloti Milan
There is no team will beat you .
It will be win or drow. Please play this formation thank u

      1. You can’t play 4141 without a proper no6 like Rodri.

For me right now 4-3-3 is the best formation for what we have.

        Mike

        Theo
        Pavlovic
        Tomori
        Calabria

        Bennacer
        Fofana
        Reijnders

        Leao
        Tammy
        Pulisic

Ultimately nothing is going to click unless the players start working as Fonseca wants. Press press press….

      2. Christmas tree formation was after Shevchenko left.

Before that it was the diamond in midfield – 41212

433 is the only logical formation for the players we have

    1. 4312 will get smashed by modern day 433 and 4231, the midfield is too vulnerable and it lacks width. We lost in Istanbul because Benitez went to 5 in midfield and we just got overrun

    2. We don’t have any attacking midfielder or any natural trequartista. So the 4312 or 4231. A 433 or 442 formation would make more sense given the players we have in the team.

  2. Capello and Sacchi are fake fans because they don’t agree with what RedBirds have in plan for Milan. Boo you two.

Did I do it right @Patrik?

  3. Milan is a pressure cooker. Any other club would give Fonseca plenty time to figure s]-[it out. Even though Furlani says they are behind the coach, how much time will they give him?

Will they be just as confident after losses (seems inevitable so far) to liverpool and Inter? Or will they be forced to make a decision?

Even worse yet, will they keep him in charge even after that? Are they prepared to give him as much time as he needs?

At least Maldini had the brass to cut Giampaolo loose and admit their mistake.

    1. the risk of the season being ‘over’ by October probably means they will just circle the wagons and keep Fonseca for the season. I just don’t see Redbird caring enough about results over finance. To then be paying Pioli and Fonseca plus a new coach will not be an option. So long as Fonseca can drag us into the top 4, that is all they will care about.. Only if that becomes a doubt will they make they change

        1. Indeed…imo Juve and Inter will duke this scudetto out, probably a good ten points ahead of the rest….I guess it’s then whether or not we can be more consistent than the others…at the moment none of the rest look great either

  4. Pioli was able to get decent results from a team with many injury problems (injury prone mercato targets), lack of a large transfer budget, and a rabid/neurotic fan base. Should never have gotten rid of him.
