Donnarumma remains undecided on contract renewal

By SempreMilan -

Milan have been struggling to renew 18-year-old keeper Donnarumma’s contract for quite awhile now as his agent Mino Raiola is playing hardball with the contract situation.

It was reported back in February that Milan had agreed a deal to extend Donnarumma’s contract in a deal worth €1.3m per year. However, after the sale to the Chinese went through, the players agent upped his demands and wanted to wait and see how ambitious the Chinese’s project is. Milan made it clear to the agent that they wanted to return to being a superpower in Italian and European football as soon as possible, and even offered Donnarumma a new bumper contract worth €4.5m per year (Sky Italia) making him one of the highest paid young prospects in the world. That’s a great jump considering his current deal is worth €0.16m a year.

The problem is that Raiola is taking advantage of the number of suitors Donnarumma has and wants to insert an exit clause in the players contract, according to Sky Italia. Raiola wants there to be a certain clause in the players contract that allows him to join another club for a low figure should Milan miss out on the Champions League. Milan are not interested in inserting any clauses to Gigio’s contract, but if they were to agree on inserting a release clause then it would be for at least €100m reports Sky.

Milan ultras have tried to warn Donnarumma about agent Raiola in their official website by claiming that the player is a “phenomenon, but one who is very young and in the hands of an unscrupulous agent”. The Milan ultras find it strange how Gigio kisses the badge but now is contemplating his contract renewal. The ultras also said, “To Gigio we ask him to prove his character and love for Milan with a great gesture”. By great gesture they are referring to him renewing his contract.

Milan see Donnarumma as a pillar and the face of the new ‘Chinese Milan’ and hope he renews his contract. However, with one year remaining on his current deal and a host of other clubs like Manchester United and Real Madrid interested, the ball is now in Donnarumma’s court. Sky reports that his decision will come by June 12 or 13. For now we wait and hope Gigio shows his love for Milan.
