This afternoon, a report has emerged looking at the finances behind the NBA Europe proposal and it could impact how AC Milan view the opportunity.
Given the American support for Milan and the ownership being from the United States, it is no surprise that the club are being linked with an opportunity to join the NBA’s European idea among several other football clubs.
Earlier today, it was confirmed that Gerry Cardinale has wrapped up a timeshare plan with Varese and it is the latest showing of intent from the Rossoneri, if it was not already known. However, it may not be a perfectly smooth sail from here.
Doubts arise
As Bloomberg reported, via Calciomercato.com, there are reportedly worries from the football clubs – whether the Diavolo are included in this is unknown – about the financial shares of the league.
The report states that the NBA would collect around 45% of all revenues, which is pretty extortionate on the face of things. To put it into context, this is higher than what UEFA claim for participating in their competitions.
Then, the FIBA would collect 5% with another 5% available for ‘future partners’. As a result, only 45% of the money would be available for the clubs themselves.
A substantial investment is required to enter the league and if the revenues don’t make it a profitable idea then its interest may drop. It will be interesting to see how this issue is resolved…

Why is this even needed? Don’t we already have the EuroLeague?
