SM: Elliott and Gerard Lopez talking directly over €30m Botman deal – the situation

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan are hopeful that they can agree a deal with Lille for Sven Botman and Elliott Management are leading the negotiations, we have learned.

Today’s edition of the French newspaper L’Equipe spoke about the rising chances of seeing Botman at Milan because Lille are experiencing a moment of economic difficulty that will surely lead to a retooling of the squad.

According to what we have learned through out colleagues at SempreMilan.it, the Rossoneri and Botman reached a verbal agreement in the winter window and they could complete everything in view of the summer.

Botman, on a numerical level, will take the place of Alessio Romagnoli who destined to leave Milan at the end of the season and will compete for the starting shirt with Pierre Kalulu, partnering Fikayo Tomori.

Ownerships in contact

The negotiation with Lille – which is on the basis of a transfer fee of around €30m – are being handled by the two owners: Elliott Management on the Milan side, and Gerard Lopez on the other.

The agreement does not seem to be far away and the decisive meeting between the two managements could take place in the coming weeks to close the deal. At the moment the Diavolo are not monitoring other profiles in defense, demonstrating that Botman is more than a target for Milan.

  1. Best way to reward Kalulu is to bench him in favor of Botman, and pay 30m for that to happen… so smart…. kalulu has already gone up against the best attackers in serie A and has done well… what else do you want from him?? What are you trying to improve upon with Botman?? Only thing Botman is better at is he’s much physically stronger and better in the air, otherwise Kalulu is a better CB.. seems like a waste of 30m imo. I’d rather get a lower cost option like another young promising CB to learn and play backup and not waste 30m in a position that won’t improve our weaknesses (…. attack…)

    1. zolo, You forget we will be involved in multiple competitions, therfore we need a deep squad to be able to compete and kjaer is getting older as well. having botman we seal a solid foundation for longtime.

    2. Dude ,you think this club’ only play on serie A and coppa italy like last 7 season? Pioli need 4 CB starter quality for 3 competition. Botman,Kjaer,Tomori,Kalulu. If follow your desire signing cheap CB,this club Will be in danger if Kjaer got his ACL injury again and Tomori or Kalulu injury

    3. Zoro, I think you answer your own question. Botman is physically much larger and better in the air. When going up against the like of Vlahovic or other big top strikers in the CL (or any clubs with a lot of height, which we lack) we’ll need it. There are so many games to play next season as well, so I’m sure Kalulu will get time. Kjaer is 33 and is coming off an ACL injury so who know what will happen with him. His contract is also out in 2023 I believe. Nevertheless, I think you still make a good point and I also had the same thought about simply bringing one of the 18-20 year old Italian CBs the club has been linked with. Could go either way I guess.

      1. Look I get having strong depth at CB is great but we’re talking 30m…. if we had infinite budget then fine. I just think we’re going to get so much more value spending 30m on a top RW or ST rather than a CB. It’s crazy money when we already have good defenders.

  2. Botman for romagnoli, you can’t play all competitions without strong set of CB’s injuries can occur any time so rotation is needed.

  3. I don’t know, hopefully I’m wrong but every time I’ve seen botman I haven’t been impressed. I mean hes ok, but he didn’t look next level to me. Much rather prefer Bremer who has been a rock in serie a. But I trust Maldini

    1. Berardi top assists in the league already and double digit goals…. again. Pretty sure we should spend 30m there which would guarantee us a good attack v. Botman but that’s just me.

  4. Signings won’t always be about a player past profile. It’s largely in regard towards envisioning a players future potential. And in that sense Maldini and Massara has proven most of us wrong. A maybe tactically good but maybe lacking physical characteristics. Maldini and Massara have thought us to allow them the space to work for the good of our beloved AC Milan. Forza Milan

  5. It’s about more than just size and skill. Kjaer and Tomori will be Milan’s best duo though we do need another strong option. Also, Kalulu is too offensively gifted to waste as a central defender. We really need two new central defenders if romanogli leaves

    1. Completely disagree. Like so many players before him, they prefer another position (kalulu likes RB) but their natural tendencies are better for another (CB)… kalulu is fine as RB, he’s home at CB. It’s up to Pioli now to inspire him and cement that.

      1. Zoro, how do you plan to replace Romagnoli leaving for free this summer?
Even with Romagnoli when we have injuries, team been suffering. We need depth squad. To rotate and compete in Serie A top 4, UCL and coppa Italia. Competition elevate player not the other way around. He’s performing if he can still starter if he keeps it up

  6. Botman > Romagnoli, kjaer is old and on the decline. This isn’t wasted money. The club has budgeted to spend in other areas too. I foresee at least a forward and another attacking midfielder joining too.
