GdS: Emerson becomes Milan’s third signing – medical scheduled and shirt chosen

Emerson Royal will be AC Milan’s third signing of the summer and while it’s a name that doesn’t excite the fanbase, they will at least be hoping for a domino effect. Tomorrow, as a report highlights, he will arrive in the city.

As reported by Gazzetta dello Sport (see photo below), Milan took their time with the negotiations but eventually reached an agreement with Tottenham at €15m. The English side initially asked for €25m but this was considered too high by the Rossoneri, who got to work.

Arrival and medical

Emerson hasn’t been called up for today’s friendly between Tottenham and Bayern Munich, having been granted permission to leave the club. He’s now expected to arrive in Milano tomorrow along with his agent, though the medical tests and contract signing will take place on Monday.

The Brazilian international has been getting decent playing time for Spurs during the pre-season, also playing as a centre-back. It’s a position that he isn’t too fond of but at least it shows his strengths physically.

As the newspaper continues, however, it remains to be seen when he can start training with his teammates as he must return to London to obtain a residence permit. He could, however, be presented to the media prior to the Trofeo Berlusconi on Tuesday.

The No.22

The full-back didn’t think twice about which number to pick at Milan, opting for No.22 as was once worn by his compatriot Ricky Kaka. Not solely because of the latter, it should be pointed out, as he also wore that number at Real Betis.

In fact, Emerson would have liked to wear the No.2 shirt given that Cafu is one of his main idols. However, this number currently belongs to Davide Calabria – the captain of the team – so it was never in discussion.

As for the No.22 shirt, there are quite a few players who have worn it since Kaka and many of them have been unsuccessful (Cerci, Gabriel, Musacchio and Lazetic). Hopefully, Emerson Royal can change that trend this season.
