CM: Emerson ‘one step away’ from leaving Milan – agent working on multiple options

Emerson Royal will start tonight for AC Milan against Girona in the Champions League, but it could well be his last appearance for the club.

Calciomercato.com report that despite having been a starter in almost every game since he arrived, Emerson should leave Milan before the end of the current winter transfer window, scheduled for February 3.

Or at least this is the will of the Rossoneri directors who have decided to sacrifice one of the four purchases of last summer to make room on the squad list for Kyle Walker, who is all set to arrive from Manchester City.

The report states in the headline that the Brazilian is ‘one step away’ from departing, with Galatasaray the team currently in pole. The idea of a move to Turkey does not displease Emerson, while contacts have been ongoing for days and have intensified in the last few hours.

The deal isn’t done yet because the total offer from Galatasaray is €13m, including loan fee and buy-out figure. CEO Giorgio Furlani wants to recoup the €15m spent to sign him from Spurs in the summer, but the gap is not large and talks are ongoing.

Emerson’s agent, Stefano Castagna, has always been very active in the English market and has spoken to both Everton and Fulham about his client. For the former it is a simple survey while the Cottagers are inclined to present an offer for a permanent deal now worth €12m.

Thanks to the work of his agent, negotiations are now at an advanced stage. Castagna is expected in Italy and the deal could materialise between tonight and tomorrow. Galatasaray are pressing and in pole position even if the player would prefer to return to the Premier League.

  1. A rarity in pro sports – a win-win-win for both teams and the player. Wish him the best. Looking forward to Walker’s arrival.

I still haven’t seen any rumors/articles/white smoke about potential midfield arrivals – other than Gio Reyna possibly arriving. We’re late in the transfer cycle and I worry we’ll have the same box-to-box group for the rest of the season.

  2. I’d take the €12mn permanent. As it’s very possible he struggles so badly we never crystallize the full €13mn from Galatasaray they send him back and he becomes another Ballo Toure

“Only” losing €3mn from our €15mn purchase is actually quite a good result, given what an atrocious player he is.

  3. I think if Milan gets an offer for Emerson Royal worth 2 Euro (not 2 thousand; 2 Euro) and one lollipop, we should sell immediately; I’d sell even if a lollipop is not offered. If no 2 Euro but one lollipop, sell too!

If only we could get Kalulu back! Shipping Kalulu out to get Emerson Royal was a historically bad deal, akin to one of the worst Milan ever did, and made worse from Kalulu reinforcing a major rival.

Might be top 3 worst deal in recent years, another one being hiring Origi for a 5-year contract worth 5.23 million gross per year for a grand total of one goal and two assists; and Caldara.

Of course there were other historically bad ones like Onyewu, Roque Junior, Bonucci was a flop with us although at least he played some games while Caldara played 1 game and we spent 40 M on him, Jose Mari, Redondo (not his fault; marred by horrific injury the first game he played for Milan, two years out and then never the same), etc.

But yes, Emerson Royal fully qualifies as one of the worst ones ever because not only he is a flop but also actively hurt the team with several dropped points as several goals against us came from his sector when he was beaten by the opposing left winger or left back who then crossed the ball for a neat assist.

The wild celebrations Tottenham fans engaged in when we got him from them say it all. I have a couple of friends who are Tottenham fans and they were extremely happy to see him go. A journalist called the 15 M fee we paid to Tottenham for Emerson, the biggest charitable contribution Milan Foundation has ever made.

    1. Kalulu was ideal player to balance our defense and offset the attacking play of Theo.
He also is very capable of going forward.

If I was at Milan, I would drive to Turin with some flowers, apologise for the hurt caused to him and beg him to return

    2. You forgot Bertolacci, in my opinion on the verge of worst signing ever with Emerson. 21M spent for that fool was such a waste of money ,we could have got Modrić for the same price, Galliani even was in talks to his managers, but decided for that fool …

About Emerson,i really start to belive that clubs use him to launder money, like why does anyone who watches football wanna have that disastrous player in his team ?

  4. I think management are trying to save face by breaking even…they already look bad with this signing that giving him away is admitting their mistake. Can’t wait to see the back of him…he easily carries the tag of worst signing of this decade.

  5. The question is how can us average Joe’s see and before during and after yet the football experts in the current Ac Milan management not know and lots more poor signings as well, when Kuluveski left Juventus I saw him as a wonderful player lots more. Bellanova, calafiori and maybe even Dorgu now

  6. For the magnitude of the club Milan is I would spend 40 million on one quality player than 20 million on two bad or chance players and then promote a younger from ac Milan ranks into 2nd choice back up, it will also create competition and enthusiasm amongst the youngsters

  7. And he’s starting tonight? Watch him tear a muscle and scuttle this transfer. A serious club would see this as a possibility and bench him for Calabria. They hate Calabria so much they would rather play this bum Royal and risk the sale!

      1. Is he really? Really? Worse than Royal? Because when he played in the supercoppa I thought he was pretty decent. Like, bad enough to RISK the Royal transfer? That’s a bit extreme dude.

      2. Done better every game than Emerson has. But he’s Italian, and not a Fonseca favorite, so of course you insult him for nothing at every turn. Pipe down

    1. He literally got injured and had to be substituted early into the game… as you predicted.

We are cursed to keep him for the next few years I fear 🙁

    1. You’d have to assume so. You’ve got to question why he was playing that game if he was actually about to do this transfer to Turkey or anywhere else. Particularly when Calabria was available.

Now we will be stuck with him until at least the summer and will likely have to accept less money.
