Emerson Royal has been named the flop of the season based on SempreMilan’s ratings for 2024-25, totalling the ratings from each game and taking the average.
The 2024-25 season was rough in many ways for Milan. While it was ultimately collective failures that made life very difficult for them, some individual performances didn’t exactly help. One of the players who was heavily criticised this past season was Emerson Royal.

As we do every season, we published player ratings for every single game in 2024-25. At the end of May, on SempreMilan Insider, we published the average rating of each player and Christian Pulisic came out on top.
However, who was the flop? As per the ratings, that was the aforementioned Emerson Royal with an average rating of 5.59/10, based on 22 appearances. Yunus Musah and Noah Okafor were the other flops, failing to make an impact. You can find the full list on SempreMilan Insider, as said.
30. Yunus Musah: 5.63 (36 ratings)
31. Noah Okafor: 5.60 (15 ratings)
32. Emerson Royal: 5.59 (22 ratings)
It should be noted that our ratings are usually lower than other outlets, though similar to Italian newspapers. You can read more about our scale for some clarification.

One of the flops has a Scudetto 🙂
Divock Origi has a Champions league.. think about that..
Exactly my friend. How was he useful to Klopp but not to us? Perhaps we’ve got problems no one is willing to admit
Not sure where you’re getting at ?
Noah Okafor played a total of 35 minutes with Napoli, not even a full half-time and neither scored or assisted. In fact, Napoli went from being comfortably ahead to almost losing the scudetto since losing Kvaratskhelia.
So I’m not really sure how relevent Okafor was to Napoli’s title race.
What I’m getting at is that instead of looking at the individual, we should be looking at the collective. The logic being that I can’t be a flop if I won a Scudetto and the guy who’s supposedly the best in the team didn’t. I think the whole team flopped: from management, to players, and coaches. Oh I can’t recall how many time I got annoyed when Fofana decided to shoot from distance instead of passing. At some point even Pulisic got selfish. A simple pass to a teammate but he decided to shoot by himself. Those moments for me are key and can make or break your season. Emerson had some good crosses into the box which could have put him on three or four assists for the season but they weren’t finished off. So I won’t look at one player and say he was the most terrible, rather I’d just say Milan as a whole was terrible this season.
Probably as relevant to us finishing 8th? I struggle to blame a guy who comes off the bench when we are 2-0 down with just 10mins left to play. I also agree he probably wasn’t a difference maker at Napoli.
Origi had a handful of big moments and has been terrible his entire career. There’s a reason no one has come in for him. It has nothing to do with Klopp.
So does Bonera and Roque Jr.
Origi was a shambolic deal and I don’t know what Paolo was thinking
He worked at Liverpool but didn’t work with us. That’s all that happened. CdK worked at Brugge and Atalanta but didn’t work with us. Gimenez worked at Feyernood but for some reason they’re still looking to replace him if the media is to be believed. Surely there’s nothing wrong with us; it’s always the players.
No he didn’t work at Liverpool
He was complete garbage at Liverpool
Maldini was insane to get him
Who was that one poster who LOVED Emerson? Dude would fight for his honor everyday.
That was “K” im pretty sure. Dude was defending him and Fonseca as if his life depended on it lol. Meanwhile Davide went and beat us to the coppa italia…
Royal benched that fraud Calabria, and now he is finally gone for good
Calabria didn’t beat anyone, now you Calabria fans want to give him credit for Ndoye scoring against us?
Davide was actually reliable, loved the club, and saw off competition since 2019. Emerson was literally the worst RB we’ve had in arguably decades, quiteliterallyserved no purpose but to lose the ball, pass backwards, get no assists, concede penalties, get beat 1v1, and WALK back. Nice try tho with the name change, K The clown. Nobody likes your precious Emerson, get over it
Emerson made even Kevin Constant look like Cafu.
Davide was always pure trash and us real Milan fans had to endure this pos for a decade
It’s a disgrace that he wore Cafu’s number 2
I cannot stand you fake fans who came with the banter era
Just leave, you will never be Milan fans
There he is! New name, same old love
This website doesn’t know anything about football
Emerson Royal was hardly the worst
Buddy, enough. We get it, youre angry he was trash cuz you tried to back him all year. Its tired…
He was genuinely our worst signing since Origi, and our worst right back in over a decade. The guy was more useless than a literal traffic cone, and literally everyone, but you, said from the beginning he was going to be absolute trash
He was good enough to bench that fake captain and that is all that matters to me
You fake fans will all be purged
Love is in the air… 🙂 🙂 🙂
So of the 3 worst, one didn’t play a game after January, and the other 2 were generally coming off the bench? What about our starters? you know…the ones who played the most minutes? Yeah those guys…Theo was terrible all year, Gabbia was at the heart of the worst Milan defense in years, Leao is a super talented player who showed it what? 2-5 games at best? J. Felix? an utter and complete disaster! On top of that, two clueless coaches! Pulisic, Reijnders and Fofana were the only decent players last season. hopefully the new arriving players will improve the team’s performances vs last season. Wonder why the valuations of all of Milan’s stars has plummeted?
Until January, Emerson showed everything he had. Which is nothing. And so, he was rightfully put on an unwanted list. In January. What bothers me is, these clowns that signed him (along with 80% of other trash from their 250 million spree in two seasons), are still here, firmly in their positions.
Emerson being good or bad is not the point I am making. There are numerous players in this squad who had terrible seasons. Theo, Leao, Gabbia, Chuckweze, J. Felix, Walker…I could go on. If you take Emerson etc out of that line up, we still finished 8th. We certainly didn’t improve from January. there’s a lot of blame to go around including Fonseca and Conceiceao. Yes, and as you said mgmt as well. Hopefully things are different this season.
Flops of the season are Furlani, Ibrahimovic and Kirovski.
Emerson was always a trash player, none of us will never know why we signed him
Am I the only one who thought Musah was pretty average? He never had a clearly defined role. Hard to judge him harshly when he was played out of position most of the time.
Emerson Royal really wasn’t that bad and the fact there is such violent agreement on here that he was just shows the group think that goes on here.
The same group think that forced out Calabria and the rest.
The same group think that has left the club with nothing.
Shocking news. No one would have ever guessed it.
This conversation is not about Emerson. It’s about our so-called ‘superstar’ leaders of the team. You know the ‘key’ players who are the driving force of the team, the ones that played week in week out and looked horrible doing it. They rarely showed up last season. The superstars earning big paychecks and playing like mid-table players. Theo, Leao, Gabbia J. Felix etc. and this echo chamber is going to blame players that were subs most the time or not on the pitch at all. Think Feyenoord and Bologna. Our key, top players let the team down big time. Why on earth is no one worrying that Theo is leaving? literally no one. Terrible output from a player that is much better than what he gave the team last season. On paper this is not a team that should finish 8th. Blame Fonseca and Conceicao for that! Clueless and rightfully fired!
Nothing surprise here. Emerson already failure in barca, spurs and still mystery why fonseca asking ACM to buy him, he is even more worst than calabria & florenzi. Noah okafor injury prone, wasted 16m euro to buy him. Yunus musah, all ACM coach from pioli, fonseca, sergio dont know what his good position or playing style, he look like confuse in field helping defense or atack ( he said it on interview himself) . Sell all of them in summer
