Empoli manager discusses ‘miraculous save’ of Maignan and praises Milan’s defence

AC Milan came away with the win in their clash against Empoli last night, defending a 1-0 lead for a majority of the game. After the game, the away side’s manager Aurelio Andreazzoli praised the Rossoneri.

Pierre Kalulu scored what ended up being the winner and, much like his defensive colleagues, he didn’t give Empoli many chances to score. At the start of the second half, Mike Maignan made an incredible save to keep Milan in the lead, for example.

Speaking to Sky Italia after the game, as cited by Football Italia, Andreazzoli stated that his side would have got on the scoresheet if it wasn’t for Maignan. He also labelled the entire Rossoneri defence as the ‘most important in the league’.

“I don’t know if the atmosphere of the Stadio Meazza affected the players or what, but we were more like ourselves in the second half. If Milan had a ‘normal’ goalkeeper, we would’ve scored at least a goal here. Instead, Maignan made a miraculous save and he did the same against us earlier this season, so congratulations to him. Milan have the most important defence in the league,” he stated.

Milan are now five points clear at the top, awaiting the results of Torino-Inter and Verona-Napoli later today. It’s clear that it most likely will come down to the wire but the Rossoneri now have a good advantage to build on.
