ESPN: PSG to target Milan star with Mbappe heading for Real Madrid

AC Milan star Rafael Leao is being lined up by Paris Saint-Germain as they are now resigned to losing Kylian Mbappe on a free transfer, a report claims.

According to ESPN, Mbappé has been offered a contract by Real Madrid and he could announce next week that he has chosen them as his next club, despite the fact he has not told either club about his decision.

He wants to be able to play in the Olympic Games in France in the summer, something that became a key talking point during his negotiations with Los Blancos.

PSG offered Mbappé a rise on his €72m gross salary but he turned it down. Instead the winger will depart on a free transfer and by doing so he will be ‘opting out of bonuses that amount to around €100m’.

He will apparently earn half of what he currently gets at PSG by moving to Real Madrid but he grew up dreaming of playing for Real Madrid and he thinks now is the right time to make the switch.

ESPN add that PSG have been preparing for the idea that he would not sign a new deal, and that the Parisians have earmarked Rafael Leão as his replacement.

As we reported earlier in the week, Leao has a €175m release clause in his contract and it is likely that Milan will ask for that amount.

  1. While there is a lot of mee that doesn’t wanna lose rafa, for almost 200 million, I don’t think we can turn that down. That’s literally enough to strengthen every single position we’re lacking in, and then a few bench players on top of that…

    1. Exactly. Plus, seeing that his form is far from what it was from scudetto season i think 175mil is more that enough to get starters, backups and new coach for hopefully domination in serie a and further progress in Europe

      1. Are psg really gonna spend 175m on him? I mean it’s the only club I can see him going to, but it’s a huge amount for a player who is still very hit and Miss. The only others outside of Saudi are City (who have Grealish and Doku, both out performing Rafa currently) and Madrid who just have endless pots of money and for whom ffp don’t apply seemingly. They also have Vini. Would Rafa want psg? It’s a thankless task trying to win the CL in a poor league.

Rafa needs igniting back into life, get the right coach and you’ll see him kick on in leaps and bounds. I can’t stress it enough, the focus signing for this summer should be a proper coach! If Pep had this team he’d be 10 points clear in Serie A. We have a very good first XI and a very decent squad. You can’t keep signing players hoping they paper over the cracks of average coaching. Pioli is our Ranieri, we now need our Jose.

  2. Psg run is coming to an end if Mbappe really leaves. They will lose him for free and lose so much commercially with his departure. The only reason fans and sponsors were interested in them was because of universal superstars like Mbappe and Neymar, joined later by Messi.
Definition of a downgrade, going from Mbappe to Leao. Just 8 months ago they had Mbappe, Messi & Neymar and in 5 months they might go with Leao/Rashford, Dembele and Kolo Muani.
And no they are not going to pay Milan 175 mil. They only paid over a 100 mil for Neymar and Mbappe, and Leao isn’t a quarter of the player or the draw of those 2. If they really came for Leao it would be around the money they paid for Kolo Muani, which was close to 90.

    1. They paid 222mil for Neymar and this was years ago. The market has inflated a lot since then. Mainly becouse PSG and City were just throwing ridicoulous money at players. Just look at Mbape salary 72mil per year lol. Most teams cant even afford to spend that kind of money in 5 years on buying players. If they really want Leao they will pay.

      1. Since they paid 222 for Neymar and 180 for Mbappe, they have not paid for anyone over 65 mil , until last summer when they bought Kolo Muani for around 90. They are not paying you 175 mil for someone who hasn’t scored a goal in 5 months and has only scored 3 goals this season in serie A.
Neymar and Mbappe were coming off great seasons when they were bought while Leao has been putrid.
Most importantly, the money they paid for Neymar and Mbappe was also because of their commercial appeal. You don’t pay that much just for what they can do for you on the pitch but also out of it.
They are Rockstars. Leao isn’t even that popular around Milan fans. Just look at the jersey sales from last season when he was coming of “mvp” season. He was third behind Tonali and Zlatan. Fans purchased double the amount of Tonali jerseys compared to Leao.
Tamper your expectations and be more realistic. Would you pat that much for Leao?

        1. You forgot that oil money dont really care. If they want Leao they will pay. And you always pay more than the actual market price if you want to buy player out of his contract. Unless Milan ownership is really stupid i dont see why would they sell him for only 90mil. CDK is scoring a lot now in Atalanta… dosen’t mean is just Leao’s fault if he dosent score a lot in this system.

        2. Z is correct, they broke the 100m for two players who weren’t just about football, they transcended that, they got France’s future superstar and then Brazils playboy. These were also marketing moves, same with Messi. Leao isn’t that player from a marketing or a playing angle.

My fear is that Pep goes for him and release me his true potential like he has done countless times. Then Leao will be in the top 3 in the world

Plus everyone is nervous about FFP With City’s charges. Except Madrid of course…they are exempt

    2. You’re an imbecile🤣 they paid 222 mil for neymar, and over 100mil for mbappe plus the initial loan fees and add one. And if you think milan would only accept 90mil, you’re high af.

  3. I highly doubt they will agree to pay 175 mln. If they are willing to pay 120-130 mln that should satisfy Milan (if Milan want to let Leao go).

  4. Real talk, the only player, in Italy, that can somewhat replace Mbappe is Martinez. Idk how popular he is off the pitch but on the pitch he is top grade. But P$$$G doesnt need a ST anyway

  5. We all know that this bounds to happen, sooner or later. PSG or other clubs. Leao never hides himself in the opportunity of playing in EPL. And for me that’s good, he just being honest. Not saying stuffs only what the fans wanna hear.

As much as I want him to stay and win other major trophy (trophies), it’ll be hard to turn down 100 or above offer for him. This management can let Tonali go, so can everyone else then. The money also can be used as a fuel to start a ‘new era’ if someone like Conte comes in. And moreover with his 352, he doesn’t necessarily need a Leao.

    1. If we do a whole new era and such, Conte is the last person we should turn to. No thanks. More like Klopp if we were serious. But I do agree on Leao… he doesn’t seem to want to stay here any longer. Which is fine. He’s honest about his intentions.

    1. Realistically yes they won’t need to go to the release fee of 175m. As soon as they approach say 120mn+ his agent likely to put pressure on him to force a move (as PSG will give him mega wages) and PSG will claim they won’t go higher / will look elsewhere at someone cheaper eg Leroy Sane or similar.

Anyway there’s no way Moncada and Co would run the risk of missing out on that sort of money, depends on Leaos form but I see them doing a deal at 140mn and all parties satisfied.

  6. Just forget that release clause. Even if PSG come with offer 100m euro cash + 10m euro add on , owner will gladly sell leao to PSG. There is nothing fans can do to stop that happen . Leao + CDK money will fund next summer transfer market , maybe ACM can get 4-5 player with that money

  7. Leao will be gone in the summer for $100-120M. Maybe even Mike. He wants a huge raise while playing like crap? Bye bye. We can get 3-4 truly good players and a better manager. So we can finally challenge for the Scudetto again. With our current setup we’re lucky to be 3rd and only because Napoli fell apart and the Roman teams are too weak.

    1. Half of the team is playing for Milan for 6 months now, half of the team is in infirmary for the most part of the season so far. We have completely new midfield and no healthy CB. We ended up 3rd in a group with PSG, Dortmund and Newcastle, and were it not for a present from the refs given to PSG in their 5th match, we were going to proceed. We are currently 4 points behind Juve and 7-10 points ahead of the 4th team in the table. Let’s not dramatize how bad of a season we have. At the start of the season everyone was talking that we should be happy if we end up at Conference league next year… I get it, but we are playing much better in attack this year, Midfield needs work but is not that bad, and I believe DEF will get more stable once we don’t need to rely on Kjaer/Gabbia/Theo for CB. Also, we see that we have very good young talents, hopefully we integrate some of them in our first team, instead of the usual for Serie A Loan formula.

      1. Agreed with most of the except the idea that we thought we’d be in conference league. Most ppl were fawning over the new signings and thought we’d be pushing for the Scudetto and making it through the UCL. But we got more goals this year, yay! Just really need defensive minded mids. Look at the difference when Benny came on
