AC Milan are very interested in signing Kerim Alajbegovic and want to try land him, even if a tough pursuit awaits.
According to MilanNews, Milan’s summer mercato will feature both experienced additions (as requested by Massimiliano Allegri) and signings for the future. Andrej Kostic was recently secured and fits into the latter category, as does the latest target Kerim Alajbegovic.
The Bosnian is currently playing for Red Bull Salzburg, but at the end of March Bayer Leverkusen exercised the buy-back option included in his contract. So, Alajbegovic signed a five-year deal with the German club, effective 1 July 2026.
A rising starlet
Born in Cologne on 21 September 2007, Alajbegovic – the son of former midfielder Samin – began his career as a player at FC Köln before moving to Bayer Leverkusen in 2021, where he never made his first-team debut.
He achieved remarkable numbers for the German U19s, attracting the attention of RB Salzburg who signed him for €2m. However, Leverkusen reserved a buy-back clause set at €10m, which they exercised a few days ago.
Alajbegovic made his full professional debut for Salzburg on last July in the first leg of the second round of the Champions League qualifying round against Norwegian side Brann. Three days later, he scored his first goal in the first round of the Austrian Cup against Dietach.
His first goal in the Austrian Bundesliga came on August 9 against Grazer AK 1902. This season, the player has made 37 appearances so far (seven in the Europa League and four in Champions League qualifying) and has scored 11 goals in all competitions (seven of which are in 21 league appearances).
Catching Milan’s eye
In his young career, Alajbegovic has faced Milan (Primavera) once in the UEFA Youth League back on 1 October 2024. The match ended 3-1 for Leverkusen, and the teenager scored 39th minute of the first half.
Alajbegovic is a winger who, being ambidextrous, can play on either the right or left. He can also be deployed as an attacking midfielder or second striker and his strength is undoubtedly his dribbling, thanks to his great technique and speed.
The first Serie A club to make a move was Napoli, who have been tracking him for some time. Juventus then swooped in, going to watch him first hand during a Europa League match. Roma also studied him in person.
Then came Milan, who sent a scout to Cardiff’s Millennium Stadium during this international break for the Wales-Bosnia game. Everyone within the management is ‘crazy about Kerim’, but it won’t be easy to snatch him from Bayer Leverkusen, who just signed him from Salzburg.
However, the Rossoneri want to try because they really like the player, and those within the walls of Casa Milan are convinced he can become a great.
