The Champions League now has just eight teams left standing and tomorrow the draw for the next phase of the competition will take place.
Last night Real Madrid and Napoli both won to book their place in the quarter-final stages of the competition, joining Benfica, Milan, Manchester City, Chelsea, Inter and Bayern Munich. Here’s all you need to know ahead of the quarter-final and semi-final draws…
When is the draw?
The draw for the quarter and semi-finals take place at 12:00 CET on Friday March 17 at UEFA’s headquarters in Nyon, Switzerland. The eight last-16 winners are involved in an open quarter-final and semi-final draw, meaning there are no restrictions at all on who can play who.
That means that the remaining sides can face opposition from the same country and can also draw a team they played in their group, so Milan for example could get Inter or Napoli as well as previous group stage opponents Chelsea.
Each quarter-final tie will be assigned a number between one and four. Those new balls will determine the semi-final ties meaning we will know the potential route to the final for each side left in.
There will also be a final draw to determine who will be the designated ‘home’ side for the final in Istanbul, Turkey on June 10.
When are the quarter-finals?
The first legs of the quarter-finals will be played Tuesday April 11 and Wednesday April 12, with the return fixtures taking place on Tuesday April 18 and Wednesday April 19.
When are the semi-finals?
The first legs of the semi-finals will be held on May 9 and 10, and the second legs will be on May 16 and 17.
When is the final?
The final will be on June 10 at the Ataturk Olympic Stadium in Istanbul.
