Ex-coach of Milan youngster Adli: “His potential is great, if he adapts he can do well”

A former coach of AC Milan youngster Yacine Adli has said that he will do well at the Rossoneri if he manages to adapt to his surroundings.

Speaking during an interview with Milan News, former assistant coach of Bordeaux Antonio Manicone discussed the player that he knows very well from their shared time at the French club.

Adli was signed by Milan last summer but loaned back to Bordeaux but they have had a terrible season and have been relegated to Ligue 2. Manicone claims that Adli still played positively throughout.

“Regardless of the team’s result he has maintained a positive performance. When we left he probably played a little less but he was one of the most proactive players in the team. If he maintains that kind of standard he has everything to try to be the fulcrum of the midfield,” he said.

When asked of Adli is ready for the challenge of being at Milan, he stressed that Adli has worked a lot on his personality in preparation.

“This will have to be said and judged by Stefano Pioli. We, from the outside, don’t have the perception of what he represents from inside the Milan reality in its various dynamics. Certainly the boy has worked a lot on his personality and I believe he’ll be able to make a name for himself.”

Making sure not to overhype the young midfielder, Manicone did stress that the player may need to be given some patience.

“In recent years he has maintained a good level of performance. He has the spirit you need to start an adventure of this kind and above all the desire to impress,” Manicone said.

“Milan will have to be good at putting him in a position to explode, giving him confidence and waiting for him with a bit of patience if he needs it. It has already happened with other players. The boy’s potential is great, if he adapts he can do well.”

Manicone was asked if Adli can be seen as a replacement for Franck Kessie but he made it clear that that is not the case.

“No, and don’t make that mistake. Yacine is another type of player, he has a different quality, he is talented. One thing is certain, you cannot think of replacing Kessie, tactically, with him,” he said.

  1. A lot of people are sleeping on Adli but I think he’s going to be a greater addition to the team than many think. I have a feeling it’s going to take him a bit of time to adapt but he’ll show very promising things on his first season, and then have a breakout second season, similar to what happened with Tonali.

  2. I completely agree, RocketRacoon. I have seen him play many times this past season with Bordeaux, and my impression is that he is a great talent. His technique is fantastic, his passing range with both feet is very good, he has a very good understanding of the game, and works hard. What he lacks is a bit of tempo, and good team-mates…

  3. I think Adli can do well if given enough time and opportunities. Tactically, he’s very similar to Hakan but with better vision and technical ability and hopefully a stronger mentality, so he’ll definitely be useful to the coach next season. Adaptation to Italian football shouldn’t be too difficult for him as he will have quite a few compatriots to assist him.
