Ex-Milan defender Galli says ‘Tomori has to be Tomori’ rather than emulate others

By Euan Burns -

Former AC Milan defender Filippo Galli has said that Fikayp Tomori should just play his own game rather than try to emulate other defenders in the sport.

Speaking during an interview with Tuttosport (via Milan News), Galli was asked about Milan’s English defender who has been performing well so far this season.

The 2022/23 season was not Tomori’s best work but he seems to have regained his best form since the new campaign began.

As Galli explains, Tomori has cemented himself as one of the most important players in the team.

“Tomori continues to grow. On the pitch he has reached that awareness that has made him a fundamental player for Milan and for his coach. This confidence has helped him and continues to help him improve match after match,” Galli said.

Galli was then asked to compare Tomori to other defenders, past and present, but he claimed that Tomori should just be focused on improving his own game as his own player.

“Tomori has to be Tomori. And the moment Fikayo plays the real Tomori on the pitch, there’s nothing for anyone,” he said.

Tomori seems to be an undroppable player for Stefano Pioli right now and Malick Thiaw is the favoured partner for him with Pierre Kalulu and Simon Kjaer both struggling for fitness.
