Ex-referee believes Porto goal should have been disallowed: “It is an inadmissible error”

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan were once again on the wrong end of another dubious refereeing decision, and one that this time led directly to a goal in the 1-0 defeat to Porto.

As the incident below shows, Ismael Bennacer goes down under pressure from Taremi who appears to back into the Algerian midfielder on the edge of the box, but no foul was whistled. As play continued, Luis Diaz ended up putting the ball into the bottom corner with a precise strike that won Porto all three points in the end.

Former referee Graziano Cesari was part of the coverage of the game for SportMediaset (via MilanNews) and was asked for his interpretation of the incident. He claims that Milan have paid the price in this group stage for poor decisions and Taremi’s intervention on Bennacer was a foul.

“The Rossoneri player looks for the ball, on the other hand the player of Porto only looks at the opponent to play him and not allow him to take possession of the ball. They are clear images, images that they also had at the VAR, who could help the referee. It is an inadmissible error. We are faced with a clear and obvious mistake,” he said.

  1. Porto truely deserved to win the game. Had Milan somehow managed to get a draw or a win from the game, which never looked a possibility, it would have been unfrair to Porto. Had their finishing been better, they could have scored lots more goals as opposed to us so didn’t even try. Most probably Milan had given up the hopes on Champions league and felt they didn’t need to work hard.

    1. sure porto desserved to win no doubt about it but besides of that i call it bs because milan had over half of its squad injured and several players fielded just back from injury and not in great form so we didnt really have many strings to play on. The goal should clearly have been disallowed because of the obvious free-kick that lead up to it and it doesnt matter if porto had the upper hand throughout the majority of the match just because they couldnt capitalize on their chances.

    2. And we deserved to win Atletico, how this one had ended?
F*ck that, if they don’t score, they don’t win. Yes, they were better team. But you can win only by being a better team.
This push was obvious from all the angles, and they don’t even bothered to let the ref to check it.
It will take us more time to get back to elite when uefamafia drags us down
