Davide Massa has been appointed as the referee for AC Milan’s game against Cremonese tomorrow, with AIA opting for experience.

As we highlighted in our latest newsletter, the debates about the officiating in Serie A have been never-ending this season. In Milan’s case, sadly, errors have been at the heart of everything and it has definitely impacted their points tally.

Just last weekend, in the game against Parma, there was great controversy as VAR advised the referee to overturn a decision that was actually correct to begin with (at least according to many experts): To avoid the same tomorrow, AIA have opted for an experienced referee.

Another draw incoming?

At 44 years of age and with over 200 games officiated, Davide Massa is definitely one of the most experienced referees in the league. He will also be assisted by Marco Guida, another experienced referee, when it comes to VAR for the game.

Experience aside, however, Milan’s record with Massa isn’t brilliant: 7 wins, 12 draws and 6 defeats. The most recent game was the 1-1 draw against Fiorentina at the start of January, and the good news is that there was no controversy involved in that one.

In his career, Massa has also given 9 penalties to the Rossoneri, which is the most he has given any team along with Lazio (also 9 penalties).
