AC Milan were beaten by Bologna tonight to effectively end their top four hopes, but there was a lot of controversy about the home side’s first goal.
As MilanNews recall, there were strong protests from the Milan players when Santiago Castro’s equaliser went in at the beginning of the second half, because Fabbian set him up by controlling the ball with his arm. Yet, after a check at the VAR the goal is validated.
Until a few years ago, the goal would have been disallowed by being overruled from the VAR room. However, from 2021-22 football season the rule is that an involuntary hand touch that leads a team-mate to score a goal or to have a goal-scoring opportunity can be overruled.
This explains the impossibility of the VAR to intervene in this way. If, on the other hand, it had been Fabbian himself who scored the goal, it would certainly have been disallowed. The Rossoblu went on to win 2-1.
🧐 Should this have been a handball?

That’s a ridiculous rule. He controlled the ball with his arm and literally 1 second later his teammate is smashing the ball into the net 🤷🏻♂️
It doesn’t matter, they deserved to win by more if we’re honest.
Natural or not, that’s fully hands ball,
But if Milan in that position, the arbitro Will decided to a hands ball.,
Milan is an targeting from arbitro..
It’s sucks..!!!!
Hand ball
Why don’t they call Theo had a involuntary dive and unrul the red? He did even appeal for Penalty.
As always, crying about referees
