Fabrizio Romano responds to Arsenal being linked with Milan star Leao

By Oliver Fisher -

Fabrizio Romano has poured cold water on the idea that Arsenal are in talks over a potential summer deal for Rafael Leao of AC Milan.

François Plateau stated on X (formerly Twitter) yesterday that Arsenal have been in contact with the representatives of Leão who has become Mikel Arteta’s ‘top target’ this summer as he looks to improve the left side.

The journalist added that Leao himself is open to a move to the north London club, and that there are negotiations yet, but the Rossoneri have named their asking price while they are protected by a €175m release clause.

Speaking in his Daily Briefing column for CaughtOffside, Romano revealed that he has been asked about the rumours linking Arsenal with the former Lille man, but he does not believe the story to have much credibility.

“Another Milan story that’s raised some eyebrows is a report linking Rafael Leao as a top target for Arsenal, but I honestly have zero updates on this one,” he said.

“I’m not aware of talks or anything – Leao is happy at Milan, he has a €175m release clause and is fully focused on Milan now, so nothing is happening as of today.”

Leao was presented with a commemorative medal for reaching 200 appearances with Milan earlier today, and he branded the Rossoneri as his ‘home’, stating that he wants to play another 200 games for the club.
