Falk: Milan and Bayern Munich keen on hiring De Zerbi after confirmed Brighton exit

By Oliver Fisher -

A German journalist has claimed that Roberto De Zerbi is a leading candidate to take over at Bayern Munich ahead of next season, but AC Milan are also in the running.

Brighton & Hove Albion confirmed this afternoon that De Zerbi will leave the club after their final game of the season after two years in charge, with the decision having been taken following discussions between the parties.

The Italian joined the Premier League side in September 2022 after Graham Potter went to Chelsea and has received praise for his work. He guided the Seagulls to a European place last season and reached the last 16 of the UEFA Europa League this season, where they lost to Roma.

Now that his departure has been confirmed the rumour mill is in overdrive. Bayern Munich are being mentioned as a serious candidate, but Milan are also in the market for a new boss and De Zerbi has never hidden his attachment to the club.

Christian Falk of BILD spoke about De Zerbi on his Tik Tok profile, stating: “It has just been announced that Roberto De Zerbi will leave Brighton at the end of the season. This means that FC Bayern’s preferred candidate is free.

“Per Eberl was one of the two main candidates for DS Eberl from the start and has a clause of 12 million euros, which Bayern can currently afford as they would have offered 18 million for Oliver Glasner. Roberto De Zerbi, Bayern’s next Guardiola is a hot name. But beware, Milan also have his name on their list.”

  1. I don’t think he’s ready for the caliber of either club. But hey, what do I know. Good Luck to him at whatever club he ends up at.

    1. He’s not but at this stage it doesn’t matter if we avoid the Fonseca / Van Bommel / Gallardo clown show.

Would be suicide for him to go to Bayern we which just chewed up and spat out Naglesman and Tuchel.

Hopefully this means we can settle on De Zerbi, probably the 4th or 5th best candidate we could realistically hire.

    2. Ok and fonseca has been around for years and you think he’s ready? Why is de zerbi getting critized when he’s better than ANY coach we’ve been linked with? I’m backing de zerbi 100%.we may not get results instantly but he’s a coach that can really start a project here.

  2. Klopp said OK to Milan in 2025-2026.

Sign Abate and respect the man. FFS. Pioli shouldn’t be discarded! The man secures top 4 and decent performance in Europe.

    Matri over Tevez.
    Zlatan over Maldini.

Save Milan Cardinale, you can still do it😩

      1. But you posting Cardinale is a broke clown in every article is what? Original?

You’re as dense as the guy you poke at.

      1. Mourinho ? really, him and Conte would be a nightmare coming true for me.
I guess to each and their own.

  3. If there are any German based Milan fans in here, I would really want to know how is the German media treating Bayern during their search for a new coach.
We know that the Italian media, who doesn’t know Jack, has the death beam pointed at Milan for a year now. Portraying Milan management as people who change their mind every 2 hours, disrespecting their current coach, even though no one from management has shown anything else but support for the guy, etc.
Meanwhile, Bayern publicly announced 3 months ago that Tuchel is leaving. They then publicly got turned down by Xabi Alonso, Naggelsman and Ragnick, just so they can go back to try to keep Tuchel, who again publicly turned them down.
Imagine if that was happening at Milan. Again all negotiations were public, Bayern management in public interviews talked about the negotiations with these coaches, and then they were publicly turned down.
No one at Milan has even said anything about them searching for a coach, but the media connects Milan with a different name every 24 hours based on their feel not what they actually know.

    1. It’s same on every other blog of other clubs. Bunch of names thrown out every day. I’ve checked one Bayern fan blog and went through comments. Feelings about RDZ are same as here – mixed. And Bayern folks are one of most demanding and tough to please. Their management are also in the mercy of the fans due to irrational decisions drawn.

      1. The media, not the fans on blogs. Fans on blogs just react based on the stories and narratives pushed on them by the media.

    2. You have a point, it has been a media circus so far, it’s extremely difficult to believe that all the mentioned names were truly considered.
Lopertegui was a real thing though, that has been verified. So the scepticism on the management about the coach selection is not fully unfair.
Personally I am a fan of de Zerbi, so I hope that we can advantage of the situation. We are super lucky with the current situation.

    3. You would blame anybody but the management. Media are the same in every country. They report news or rumors from their sources accumulated along the years, coaches, executives, agents, anyone. They sometimes extrapolate but they don’t spread fake news, most of these guys do it as a full time job for a living.

  4. I would like to see Mr De Zerbi take the helm at ACM. He has more experience than Motta – one good season with a few exceptional players. On the basis of what a well run club Bayern has been over the years and if it’s true they are serious about Mr De Zerbi’s services then ACM should take him whilst the opportunity is there.

  5. I might not be Cardinale’s biggest fan, but he really can’t go much wrong by hiring de Zerbi. Let me elaborate.

Firstly, I think we need the coach who would also be the face of his ongoing project and grow with the team. Therefore, IMHO, it is already too late to hire top class name such as Pep/Ancelotti/Klopp etc, as we simply won’t be able to compete in terms of salary and providing them with the players they need. Hence, you do the next best thing – hiring the NEXT Pep/Ancelotti/Klopp. There are a lot of names bandied about at the moment and some are for sure pretenders, and some are more promising than the rest.

I feel de Zerbi falls well within the category of ‘promising coach’. He might be another dud or would actually make it, we’d never know – but that’s precisely it is THE PERFECT TIME to get him, at least if you are Cardinale. It is rather well known that his main priority is building the damn stadium, and making returns to his investment. I really have no issues with that, so more power to him, go for it. But, the fans have grown restless evidently, especially after being the lesser team of the town for a record amount of derbies. Hiring de Zerbi would definitely be a statement move. Regardless of how his tenure would turn out, he is wanted by big names, including Bayern. To be able to compete with the big fish and got what we want, would really boost the mood of the fans.

De Zerbi has also done relatively well for Brighton with limited resources that he had. He had also make a lot of profits for some of the players sold and that’s another plus for Redbird, isn’t it? Imagine buying Musah for 20M and selling him to Chelsea for 120M after 3 years? That should be music to the ears.

Lastly, even if de Zerbi flopped, Cardinale would still be able to get out pretty much scot-free. He showed ambition by hiring him in the first place, it’s entirely the fault of the coach if he can’t perform. Yet another win for him in my books.

So, I don’t know why he’s not going for De Zerbi, especially now that he doesn’t even to pay the release fee?

  6. 2 weeks before the end of the season and still not a peep from management about the new coach
    Redbird are incompetent cheapskates
They would make a lot more money in a very short time if they spent good money on a couple of WC players and a proper manager which would be needed to win Scudetto and CL

    1. It’ll be wrong to announce a new coach when the season isn’t over yet. Unprofessional. It’s not like pioli’s contract is expiring at the end of the season, he is getting fired.

  7. I don’t think he is top level coach yet as the media is hyping him up. Maybe in the future he will be but not yet. Hope I’m wrong. I will love to see him excel in his profession as i want more great italian coaches around. Wether he joins our club or not wish him all the best.

  8. RDZ is going to Milan. The management has long signed him they were waiting for him to depart from Brighton.
The management is competent and smarter check Gerry last week interview abt the coach.

  9. RDZ NOT HAPPENING he is expected to get the Man utd job and has NO INTEREST in Ac milan nor seria.

MVB is expected to become the next Ac milan coach as he will be CHEAP and do exactly what he is told by elliot Redbird .

    1. You do realize he has played in ac milans yiuth ranks right ? he has also spoken well about the club and has uttered gratitude tiwards the club and has never said he wouldnt like to coach milan on the contrary in fact.

    2. Please don’t take this the wrong way, but for someone using the name Jack Russell, you sure post like a Chihuahua 🤣🤣🤣

  10. really don’t understand people here. De zerbi, who is by far miles better than any coach we’ve been linked to is getting heavily criticized but managers like Fonseca are ok? HAVE YOU SEEN THE NAMES WERE LINKED WITH??

it will be a blessing if we get de zerbi. Someone who loves the club just like we do. It’s no coincidence bayern are chasing him, psg, manchester utd, barca were all linked with him but no us fans know way more than all these top clubs.

At this point it looks like Fonseca who is not better than pioli at all will be the next coach and an opportunity has suddenly opened and nobody is happy.

Is he a fi ished product? No, he’s young and has a lot to learn but he’s very exciting, intelligent and skilled. What makes it even better is that he loves milan

    1. For Milan, De Zerbi is miles better than any coach out there. An Italian who came through youth ranks of the club, with interesting ideas & room to grow. Moreover — he is a fan of the club. There is nothing better than that.

Easy no to Klopp, Guardiola, Conte or Mourinho. Not to mention the other names.

      Only De Zerbi!
