Falk: Milan ‘closely monitoring’ situation of 327-goal Bayern Munich stalwart

After losing the veteran Zlatan Ibrahimovic at the end of the 2022-23 season, AC Milan are looking to bring a similar figure to the club, who could fill a vital role on and off the field.

Whilst in his final Rossoneri season Zlatan may not have been ever-present on the pitch, his work off it will have been seen as the club’s biggest loss.

The 42-year-old had played in four of the top five European leagues and seen almost everything, both highs and lows. As such, losing a player with his experiences would have been a blow to the locker room.

Whilst he is due to return to the club in some capacity, the Rossoneri are also monitoring a player who could fit a similar role to the one the Swede held in his playing time.

As Christian Falk has reported as part of his guest column in CaughtOffside, Milan could move for Thomas Muller, with his future at Bayern Munich in the air.

The report suggests that the 34-year-old wants to extend his stay with the German heavyweights until 2025. However, with his contract set to expire in June 2024, if there is no agreement, the Diavolo will look to tempt him to join.

From the World Cup in 2014 to the Champions League, Muller has seen and won it all, often playing a pivotal role too. With Stefano Pioli not opposed to a 4-2-3-1 formation this season – he provides extra coverage for the attacking midfielder position, which is an additional benefit.
