Fassone: “I assumed Yonghong Li was serious; he thought it was simple”

During SportItalia’s show this evening, former AC Milan CEO Marco Fassone was present, talking about the Chinese ownership which ultimately failed with their project.

“All of us directors had regrets. We started the job and did it for one year, but in the end, we couldn’t complete our path. The owner of that era (Yonghong Li) underestimated the repayment of the loan.

“He was convinced that he had a very small debt compared to the value of the goods he owned. He wasn’t able to complete a task that he considered simple, thus being forced to hand over the club.

“When I received the call from the Chinese back in 2016, I was honoured and I think that anyone would have accepted that offer. He was negotiation with Fininvest and Berlusconi so I assumed that he was serious.

“We made mistakes during our journey, but I think that we did our best to bring enthusiasm to the club and create the idea that was in Yonghong Li’s head. We assumed that there were difficulties, but I didn’t imagine that it would end like this.

“After Yonghong failed to repay his debts,  I didn’t hear from him anymore. However, even before that, he only spoke Chinese so I didn’t know him that well,” he concluded.
