Ever since Max Allegri left AC Milan at the beginning of 2014, the Rossoneri have failed to find the right manager for the club, having had eight of them. However, they could have ended up with a more than competent one.
In an interview with Radio Marte (via MilanNews.it), the former AC Milan CEO, Marco Fassone, spoke about his experience with the Rossoneri. Among other things, he revealed that he tried to sign Carlo Ancelotti in the summer of 2017.
“It’s true, I went to see him to understand his situation. However, he had a year left of his contract with Bayern and as a great professional he replied that he would honour it. I always felt that he wanted Italy and I was sure he would return,” Fassone stated.
Marco Giampaolo was sacked at the beginning of this season and the Rossonero opted to replace him with Stefano Pioli. However, there have been few signs of improvement thus far, sitting in 14th place with just 13 points in 12 games.
Many would argue that Gennaro Gattuso should have stayed at club, as he managed to create a solid base for his players to work on. Furthermore, he knew the Milan environment and was able to transfer that to his squad.
