Father of Boca Juniors striker admits ‘dream is to play in Europe’ amid Milan links

By Oliver Fisher -

The father of Boca Juniors striker Mateo Retegui has confirmed that his son will play for Italy having been called up by Roberto Mancini.

Retegui is gaining attention for his exploits in Argentina where he scored 20 goals last season on loan at Tigre and he has six in six for them this season too. Calciomercato.com report that he has attracted the attention of Milan who are in search of a centre-forward for the future, but also Mancini.

The Italy boss has included him in the list of preliminary call-ups (around 50 players) for Italy’s matches later this month, and the player’s father reacted to the news.

“He is very excited and honoured to have been called up by the European champions. Mateo has your passport thanks to his maternal grandfather Angelo Dimarco, who arrived in Argentina from Canicattì,” he said.

There have been multiple reports claiming that Milan sent scouts to watch him in the match against Argentinos Juniors on Monday evening as they look for a future No.9.

Retegui’s father added: “His dream is to play in Europe. Many clubs have already looked for him, but he is still owned by Boca Juniors and now he plays at Tigre to whom he owes so much.”
