If Christopher Nkunku is to leave AC Milan, the club aims to recoup the amount that was paid for him in the summer. However, it seems unlikely.
It is early in the window, but it already seems like an exit for Nkunku is a more difficult task than first expected. Reports suggest that he is hoping to remain at the club, focusing on Genoa on Thursday, instead of a future away from San Siro.
However, those same thoughts may become shared if the mercato does not offer any changes.
Things change
Fenerbahce, it seemed, were willing to offer a figure close to what Milan paid in the summer to bring the Frenchman to the Super Lig. Now, that seems a bit difficult. Yesterday, it was reported that a €25 million offer was more likely.
Tuttosport confirm this thought, too, with the Turkish club seeking a ‘significant discount’ on the forward’s price. Calciomercato.com relays that they ‘immediately demanded’ this, whilst also suggesting alternate options, such as a loan move.

The price drop may make the Diavolo reconsider their position regarding selling him, especially if he has no interest in leaving the club this month. We will have to wait; things can certainly change, but whether they will is another thing entirely.

As underwhelming Nkunku often has been while also looking like a fish out the water I see absolutely no point in entertaining the Turks whims so they can pretty much sod of in my view. When that is said it’s nevertheless still a dumbfounding transfer bringing him to Milan.
100% on point. Him, Leao and Puli are never let to recover, so we only have one and half of them available at times. If there is no replacement coming there is no point of selling him. He still has a name big enough to get the money back in summer even if that means he is going for a couple of years to play for Arabs. We are surely not going to be able to offload Gimenez, so there won’t be another pure attacker coming. If there is no one lined up and lets face it noone’s contract is ending in winter then we might as well keep Nkunku till summer.
Yeah I agree and think it makes the most sense to see how it pans out before the summer unless we actually get an adequate offer and has a replacement but even then that new player would probably need some time to adjust as well so a potential summer sale seems to make the most sense.
He’s literally just started to play well. Why on earth sell for a discount now, with one of our frontline forwards injured for the rest of the season?
Imagine if pulisic was bought for 40m, even tho hes a far better player. They would of burned down Milan, and Kicked A.c. milan out of Fifa
Maldini tried to bring Pulisic to AC Milan before he actually joined us but back then Chelsea’s demands was around 40 mil and guess what he didn’t have the option to dig that deep into the wallet. He also tried to bring in Loftus by the way.
Predictable. We overpaid for him, and no competent sporting director will want to sign him for close to the absurd amount our incompetent managers paid to Chelsea. Nkunku is a player in steep decline in his career, so signing him for 37 million Euro plus bonuses was utterly absurd. That’s usually what you pay for a promising and rising younger player, and Nkunku is anything but.
He fits poorly Allegri’s tactics and tends to be unproductive, always with his back to the goal. True, he had one good game, but even Emerson Royal had the occasional good game. I think that it remains to be seen if his good performance against Verona will consistently repeat. He is also injury-prone.
Even though selling a player five months after he is hired, not giving him enough time to adapt to Serie A and improve, is generally unwise, in the case of Nkunku I’d actually be in favor of a sale, or a loan with obligation to buy, even if the amount received results in a capital loss. That’s because I was baffled by the decision to hire him in the first place, given his poor fit into the head coach’s scheme (Allegri himself in a rare indiscretion, said that he didn’t know how to use him), injury propensity, and steep decline in goal contributions.
So I feel that these are sinking costs and the sooner we get rid of him, the better, not to be stuck with Origi 2.0. When you make a mistake, it’s best to correct it sooner rather than later, even at a financial loss. If you persist in your error, the loss only grows.
This said, I do not think that Nkunku will leave this January. I find it unlikely that other teams will take a chance on him by offering anything close to what our managers would find acceptable. They are allergic to capital losses and it’s very unlikely that anyone will offer enough to offset such loss. Besides, if the player who is under contract doesn’t want to leave, it’s hard to push him out, like the case of Origi has demonstrated.
He’ll stay and as his performances will likely remain underwhelming despite one recent good game, his marketing value will drop even more.
I also don’t think it’s wise to sell him, however bad and unproductive he is, if we don’t have a replacement in mind.
With Giménez out for 3 or 4 months, we only have Leão, Pulišić and Füllkrug as available forwards and all of them aren’t 100% fit and are injury prone.
Furthemore if it took him 3, 4 months to get a bit used to serie A and finally score, it would be unreasonable to get a striker who will take as much time to acclimate.
True. Getting rid of him now may make financial sense in the long run regarding the risk of further drop in market value but we are thin upfront so the possibility does exist that he will keep improving and will be helpful.
But if a good offer comes around that would allow us to simultaneously hire a decent striker who already has Serie A experience, I think we should take it.
The other option is to just stay put for now, and try to get Vlahovic in the summer on a free transfer, not to forget that Camarda will be back, hopefully more mature. He’s not having a good time at Lecce as he is rarely fed by his incompetent wingers but at Milan he would likely do better and get closer to fulfilling his potential. I think we should take a chance at integrating Camarda into the first team next season, instead of loaning him again. Sometimes even very young players can shine in a top league; see for example Estevão with Chelsea.
💯
30m+
Soon we will regret i don’t see any difference between this guy and origi 30ml is more than enough he is flop milan management should take the money before its too late
sell at a discount and reinvest into another center back so we can actually push for the seconda stella. I don’t fault Nkunku it’s not his fault it’s not working. We simply do not need him.
If Nkunku was playing for Inter, Fenerbahce was offering 40 millions . These turkish clubs don’t respect Milan as they should. If you show yourself at my door with 25 millions for a player that cost me 37 few months ago and he’s part of France national team , that’s mean you don’t respect me…
30 mil is real price. Why we pay like idiots 45 is queation for scout and managment
I seriously doubt these links are real. As much as I’ve been unimpressed by Nkunku why sell now? Honestly the only way Milan recoups any meaningful value (25M isn’t going to by a better striker) is to give him time and hope he figures it out. Hopefully with Leao and the new German Nkunku will be able to play off a more central striker to greater effect
We will need Nkunku next season when we have the League, CL, Coppa Italia and Supercup. Rather a established Nkunku that will have 1 season experience in Milan and a full preseason than selling him and gamble on another player in that position. It would be the same mistake Milan did with CDK.
Nkunku, Jashari and Ricci gonna be important next year.
Sell RLC, Fofana, Athekame, Tomori and De Winter.
Buy Scalvini, Ederson, Kayode or Palestra, Vlahovic and Leoni.
Well Nkunku can to some extent still come good but don’t compare a 28 year old established player on his 3rd different league experience abroad with a 20 year old talent who only first arrives abroad. Nkunku also arrived on a far higher salary so the patience should be less than with a young talent.
Scalvini as good as he can be has almost consistently been injured for the last two seasons so that would be quite the gamble. Leoni is currently out with a cruciate ligament tear until September 2026 so that isn’t really viable either.
Let him continue playing. He’s starting to show his true form. Give him time.
Thanks Tare!
Oh wait, are we supposed to only do that for a Maldini signing? /S
Why would you get rid of him? So that you could spend the money on what? This team needed a focal point and got a solid target man. We are a little thin at wingback, maybe? Is there another forward we should pick up instead?
This team could win a scudetto with the current squad. Do not throw that away. The current squad has a small window to win with the aging stars Modric and Rabiot. Let’s win it! We need to hold on to the depth we have.
