Despite beating Bologna at home on Friday night, AC Milan were well beaten on Wednesday night, looking very different between the two games.
There can be several frustrations with last night’s game, however, the fact that Milan looked so different in the space of five days is certainly up there. On Friday night, the Rossoneri looked more than competent against Italiano’s higher press.

However, when faced with the same challenge last night, there were noticeable struggles. Perhaps, it was due to the rotational choices of both teams. However, the difference was stark, and once the Rossoblu got going, there was no stopping them.
Sergio Conceicao’s team were suffocated for the majority of the game and never managed to break free, which the opposition deserve credit for. Last night, Ferguson spoke about how Bologna ‘deserved’ to win the game and his words at the press conference have been relayed by Milan Press.
“It’s a trophy we deserve, it’s an incredible thing for all of Bologna. We had prepared for it like the other games, like we did last week.
“At San Siro we lost rightfully, then in the locker room we talked and we weren’t happy. We prepared well for the final, to win it. It’s a beautiful evening. We’ve grown a lot. Tonight was like a Champions League match. We’ve grown a lot.”
“We want to grow. In the last three years we have grown a lot, every year we raise the level of play, of work. Last year we made a record number of points, we entered the Champions League. Today we made history too, we are happy. Now we push harder, let’s see.
“Winning this trophy with the Bologna shirt is worth a lot. I had played a final before, I lost it and I remember the feeling. This morning I thought about how I felt four years ago, I used this as motivation for tonight .”

Should have been sent off
Congratulations to them! Bologna SHOULD be fighting tooth and nail like that for the Coppa.
But us – it shouldn’t even be a blip on our radar, never mind the thing that will ‘save our season’.
Well it didn’t save the season, it embodied it.
The last 12 months must never be repeated.
