Feyenoord CEO Dennis te Kloese has described the sale of Santiago Gimenez to AC Milan as a ‘master plan’ given how it turned out.
Gimenez was Milan’s big signing of the 2025 winter transfer window. The Rossoneri acquired him from Feyenoord for around €35m including bonuses just days before their two-legged Champions League play-off tie against the Dutch side.

That match-up saw the latter advance to the round of 16 despite Gimenez scoring earlier in the second leg to level things, before Theo Hernandez’s red card. The Mexican’s time at Milan certainly has not gone as anyone hoped so far, given he finished this season with zero league goals.
Feyenoord’s CEO Dennis te Kloese spoke about that negotiation to Vamos Network, joking about how things turned out.
“When we sold him to Milan, we made a lot of money, but we knew we’d be facing him in the Champions League. In the return leg, he scored after a minute, and I said ‘Jesus, that’s not going to go well’,” he said.
“In the end, we managed to get through, collecting his money and the money for advancing to the next round. It was the master plan, but for an hour I was sweating. I kept thinking that if he scored another goal, I’d be dead meat. It went well, sometimes you also need a bit of luck.”
