Fichajes: Milan lining up move for Atalanta centre-back in 2024

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan did not make a big investment on a defender during the summer window that has just closed, but they have one in mind for next year as per a report.

According to Fichajes.net, Milan have set their sights on Giorgio Scalvini of Atalanta and he is considered a main target in the 2024 summer transfer window.

At 19 years old, Scalvini has been one of the most impressive young defenders in the league and the feeling is that the time might soon come to leave Atalanta.

His ability to read the game and his confidence at such a young age has attracted the interest of several elite clubs in Europe, and Milan are no exception.

What makes Scalvini even more attractive to Milan is his contract, which expires in the summer of 2027. This means that the club would have the opportunity to secure a young talent for several years, helping to build a solid future core.

The Milan management have shown a willingness to invest on players with big future potential, and Scalvini fits perfectly into that profile.

Now, it remains to be seen whether Milan will be able to do more business with La Dea, after the Charles De Ketelaere operation a few weeks ago.

  1. Imagine if we sell Tomori and CDK, and buy Boniface and Scakvini.
    Mike
    Calabria–Thiaw–Scalvini–Theo
    RLC—Benny(Replacement)—Reijnders
    Pulisic—Boniface—Leao

    Bench:-
    Okafor, Jovic, Musah, Chuk

    1. Hope to keep Thiaw and Kalulu because they are young and really talented. Thiaw in my opinion will become a top class CB and Kalulu can play CB and RB pretty good. I am not saying that Tomori isn’t good but if I had to choose 1 of those 3 my vote would go to the Englishman.

  2. It will be very hard to imagine Milan or any Italian club buying Scalvini from Atalanta.
He will cost a lot. Gvardiol to ManCity kind of a lot.

    1. Not sure… I think €40m is already good price for him. €60m is excessive.

Gvardiol already mainstay at club and Croatian National Team since really young age.

      1. We are talking about dealing with Atalanta here. Same Atalanta that just sold a 20 year old Hojlund, after 1 year being a part time starter and only scoring 9 goals, for 75 million.
Scalvini price will be at least 60 mil. You and me might think that’s excessive but when clubs like Chelsea, ManCity, United and such get involved into the bidding, the price will rise even higher than that.

        1. I think atalanta will let go scalvini to italian clubs for above 50, to epl clubs above 65 or even above 70. Remember epl clubs love to pay stupid price for any hyped players

  3. One way to finance this transfer is to sell Tomori for crazy money to EPL clubs like Nottingham Forest or West Ham who have poor transfer policy and not afraid to splash the cash. Then, offer Atalanta De Ketelaere plus cash for Scalvini.

With Thiaw, Scalvini, Kalulu, Gabbia and Pellegrino, Milan wont need to worry about DC position for years.

  4. I fear it’s too late. He needs to play his 80ish games for Atalanta. It’s been crucial for his development but the timing won’t work for us.

We’d be lucky to sign him for less than 60m by the end of this season. It’s well out of our price range unless he refuses to go anywhere but Milan.

You could hardly have designed a more complete defender.

He’s already among the top echelon of CBs in the Serie A. A remarkable feat for 194 to 196cm guy who won’t turn 20 until late in December 2023. Taller guys are always going to take a bit longer to hit their peak.

You can already see significant differences in his play between this season and last season. He looks thicker and is playing a more physical/combative style. I expect at least 2 more seasons of significant physical development.

Last season he was largely reliant on his read of the play, positioning and anticipation. He was playing as the left CB in a back 3 (after an early run in as a DM/CM) and had a licence to attack, almost looking like a sweeper at times.

This season he’s taking up more aggressive positions. He’s more dynamic and has surprised me with his speed and power. He’s moved into the middle of the back 3 and is still playing with that attacking freedom. He’s otherwise always there to get a block in or stop an attack.

I’m still waiting for him to get exposed while marauding forward but he always seems to get the timing right.

There has been a bit of hype about Scalvini but it seems to me that he’s not really being seen for what he is. It seems to me that he’s seen as another Bastoni with whom he shares similarities. It’s like ‘he’s a really good defender, a bit on the slow side, maybe more suited to a back 3, you know, we’ve seen it before’. That’s no disgrace, not by any means, but it doesnt tell the full story.

Even seeing him against Macedonia, he changed the defensive dynamic. He is a very rare combination of size, speed and technical ability.

I reckon after a season or 2 Baresi would want Scalvini to wear his # 6. He’s that good.
