GdS: FIGC hosting ‘referee revolution’ after recent incidents – the situation

AC Milan are no strangers to strange decisions, and this season has seen several questionable calls go against them, the latest of which occurred this weekend.

It has been a difficult year for the officials. Indeed, throughout this season, the scrutiny on them has been higher than ever. Unfortunately, there has been a reason for this. Performances and standards have dropped, and mistakes have been more frequent and perhaps more costly than in recent years.

For example, at the weekend, Milan conceded a header, which was given the opposite way when the Diavolo were the ones scoring it.

Even during the weekend before that, Inter were given a massive boost in the Scudetto race, thanks to a decision which has left many people baffled.

The referee revolution

As a result of this scrutiny, the FIGC have, today, held a ‘referee revolution’ programme as Gazzetta dello Sport reports, via MilanNews.

Gabriele Gravina, the president of the FIGC, held the first meeting today, discussing the situation with Gianluca Rocchi and Francesco Massini. Later meetings are planned with the presidents of Serie A and Serie B.

The idea, currently, is to create a refereeing company, owned by the FIGC, which controls officials across the top two divisions, to bring Italy back to the top of Europe’s elites when it comes to officials.

  1. As long as the FIGC is involved nothing will change the 20 year downturn will continue. How Gravina and co can even show their faces in public is beyond me. For almost a century Italy was the measure of what a great footballing country is. Now it’s an utter joke and the same ppl who presided over the fall are still making decisions? Dumb dumb and stupid. Meloni talks a lot about cultural erosion? Well I guess Calcio isn’t culture

  2. At least a good sign. Few weeks ago, Cardinale has come to serie A elites meeting.
I hope FIGC is moving forward through fair officiating.

  3. So one Genius who has overstayed his welcome or usefulness is meeting with another Genius of the sort to “improve” the situation?! LMAO!!! Gotta Love Italy.

Terminate Rocchi. Bring in Doveri – literally the only decent ref left. Unless Colina is available. I’d love him back too.
