Claudio Filippi was more important to AC Milan than most may give him credit for, but with Massimiliano Allegri’s departure, he has also left.
To most, having a goalkeeper coach may be overlooked. However, Milan need to be so grateful to Filippi for his work in the past 12 months. Indeed, the Italian helped Mike Maignan find his form again, but this mattered for more.

There have been plenty of suggestions that, without the work (and support) of Filippi, Maignan may not have renewed his contract with the Rossoneri. So, if he is to depart this summer for a fee or if he is to remain at the club, Filippi deserves a substantial thank you.
Filippi thanks Milan and the goalkeeper union
This afternoon, Filippi confirmed his departure from AC Milan on his Instagram, which can be seen below.
“After just one year, my experience at AC Milan comes to an end. It’s a glorious club with a fan base in love with the team, and Milanello is a legendary workplace, unique for its location and for the people who work there, from the restaurant staff to the reception staff to the cleaning ladies, all in love with their AC Milan.
“With Daniele [Daniele Borri], we have been fortunate to coach a wonderful group of goalkeepers, both technically and above all morally. To Mike, Pietro, Lorenzo, and Matteo, a heartfelt thank you and best of luck for a bright future.”
Matteo Gabbia, at the time of writing, is the only Milan player to have commented and his message was brief but clear: a simple love heart and a showing of respect.
