GdS: Fiorentina eye Adli purchase after being ‘revalued’ during loan spell

Since departing AC Milan in the summer, Yacine Adli has found a new lease of life. Now, Fiorentina are already considering making his loan move permanent.

Adli’s time at Milan is challenging to evaluate because his role fluctuated heavily at the end of his spell. Under Stefano Pioli he never got a look in, but during the Rossoneri’s injury crisis, the Frenchman was given minutes.

Those minutes began to form into a regular starting place, and before too long he was seen as a big piece of the squad. However, Paulo Fonseca did not see the situation in the same way.

Instead, it was deemed that Adli did not have a place within the squad as the Portuguese head coach saw an exit as a better move for all parties, and so far, it can be argued that this was the right decision.

Gazzetta dello Sport (seen below) write that the midfielder has been ‘revalued’ in Florence, and the fans already love him. He is ‘a pawn more capable than others’ in Raffaele Palladino’s team, and if trends continue then he would be purchased at the end of the season for €10 million.

Looking to the Rossoneri, Fonseca has rarely looked away from the partnership of Youssouf Fofana and Tijjani Reijnders, and it is unlikely the Frenchman would have solidified himself as the side’s Trequartista.

A move that suited all parties? It seems increasingly so.

  1. sure, hype him a bit, so we can maybe get rid of him completely. he has good vision, but is below average in all other things. of course the goal against us hurt and stick in our mind, but he isnt even a real starter at Fiorentina.

    1. OMG – what Games did you see last year ? Or are you really so blind ? Or do you really have Zero Ball Knowledge ? Pls say you are Not really in to Football..

  2. i really think we can used him against smaller team with compact defensive such as cagliari, but put him as attacking middfield alongside pure dm-bennacer who didnt go up

  3. I think it’s great that Milan has been able to help teams ahead of us in the table(even considering the missed game) like Fiorentina and Juventus. We are so nice that we even loaned out players in positions we currently need just to ensure that the league is competitive.

  4. If AC Milan management thinks like Barca, they would either call this guy back from loan or make use of some futuro youngsters… But let’s all keep hyping the like of Yamal, Cubarsi and so on

    1. Barca use young players because they are top talent already performing at high levels. Adli and Milan youngsters are nowhere as good as the likes of Yamal, Cubarsi, Casado and Fermin Lopez. They even can’t beat weak Serie C teams.

      1. Very few up-and-coming players are on the level of Yamal and Cubarsi, but this “can’t win in Serie C” stuff is nonsense and patronising. They are there to learn the rigours, not to blow (very talented) footballers away every week. Anyone who thinks individual footballers just get progressively and uniformly worse as you go down the levels is only seeing commodities.

There is a long list of players through history who have gone on loan and done ‘ok’ at lower levels then returned and thrived in top leagues where the pitches are better, your teammates are better, the crowds are bigger and there is inherently more space in front of you.

There is a longer list of players who have looked decent at top level, not quite broken through, dropped down a division and not coped, and ended up in tier 4/5.

A defence I’m sure you’ll be making yourself when Inter eventually manage to file a balanced tax return and set up their own u23s 😉

    2. I like Adli fine but he’s a league average midfielder, you shouldn’t be comparing the likes of Adli to Yamal, they aren’t in the same category

  5. “They are there to learn the rigours, not to blow (very talented) footballers away every week”
Yes, they are there to learn because right now they are not capable of playing with Milan’s first team. Unless they show they can perform vs grownups in the Serie C, what is the point of using them in the Serie A? Barca use only those youngsters who do well with Barca B/Athletic.

“A defence I’m sure you’ll be making yourself when Inter eventually manage to file a balanced tax return and set up their own u23s”
Nah, I don’t want Inter to have an U23 side. Instead I want serious investment in the first team so Inzaghi has more quality rotations as disposal.

  6. “Barca use only those youngsters who do well with Barca Athletic”

Indeed they do – because they look at individual performances, not results. That’s exactly my point.

Given you’re a) not a Milan fan and b) not interested in u23s, I’m going to assume you haven’t watched Futuro, so individual performances isn’t something you can comment on.

    1. I really doubt that anyone of Milan Futuro’s players is capable of playing for the first team, except for Camarda who can rotate with Morata&Abraham to gain experience without getting too much pressure on his shoulders. Otherwise either Pioli or Fonseca would have integrated them into the first team. Even Simic if you see him play in Belgium, he is still raw, and not yet fit for Milan.

  7. Adli was nothing special in any position he played. Only good short passing game. Maybe he has the long vision but his execution lacked. Apart from being a nice guy, he wouldn’t start ahead of either Reijnders or Fofana.

    Fiorentina can have him.

    1. He probably won’t start ahead of either Fofana or Reijnders but you have to admit that currently, only Reijnders has a better passing game than him (I’m not counting Bennacer who is injured). Neither Loftus-Cheek nor Musah are good in the passing department.
He was always a defensive liability but now we have Fofana to make up for that.
Had we kept Adli we could have used him against Napoli when Reijnders was absent. In fact we need to replace Reijnders from time to time.

  8. The issue with AC Milan is that we are thinking too much about results. Most young players don’t have the kind of opportunity Maldini had in the mid 80s where he was brought in young and allowed to express himself.
Our young players are not growing into marvelous footballers we see these boys express themselves when they leave us to other teams.

Something is wrong with our philosophy. And the way we the fans whine about every other thing, as though no one is good enough for us.
