CorSport: Fiorentina still furious after Milan defeat and demand meeting with Gravina

By Oliver Fisher -

Fiorentina are still furious about the decisions that did not go their way during Sunday evening’s 2-1 defeat against AC Milan, according to a report.

Corriere dello Sport (via MilanLive) recall how La Viola protested extensively after the match both for a penalty not given to Jonathan Ikoné after Fikayo Tomori’s tackle in the area and because they felt Ante Rebic fouled goalkeeper Terracciano in added time before Nikola Milenkovic’s own goal.

Fiorentina are furious at what they deem to be failures from both the referee Simone Sozza and his colleague Michael Fabbri who was in charge of the VAR room. The two incidents infuriated the Fiorentina management, and their director Joe Barone has asked for a meeting in Coverciano directly with Gabriele Gravina, number one of the Italian Football Federation.

A dossier is ready but it does not contain only the incidents from Sunday’s game, as the Tuscan club believe there are three or four matches in which they have been damaged by officiating and that is why they are eight points off the European qualification zone in the table.

  1. Yeah, good luck.
Milan lost 2 games last season because of VAR and referring
with a player scoring a goal with his hand and a referee denying a clear goal becauseof a foul on a Milan player.
Compared to those 2 clear incidents, the Tomori tackle was more of a 50/50 & it could have gone either way.
While there was absolutely no foul on the GK. It was more of the GK tackling Rebic legs. The GK was late, Rebic was already in the air.

    1. Add in the Spezia game a second yellow that should have been given to a player who eventually scored the winner for Spezia.

  2. Rebic was never a fault. On the other hand, Tomori, yes it could’ve been a penalty on the other match. Fiorentina should look at Milan last season, when several crucial miss judged by the reff costed us. Yet we didn’t cry, kept our head high, and won the Scudetto in the end.

  3. Just for the record, the referee from inter-fiorentina was suspended because he robbed fiorentina, not the referee from milan-fiorentina,maybe they should demand meeting for that match vs inter 😂

  4. I watched the replay over and over

    1. Tomori clearly tackle the ball first and Ikone’s falling down tried to take advantage with his acting. That’s why the referee didn’t give the penalty.

    2. Rebic jump first tried to head the ball without even looking at Fio GK, while Fio GK was looking unsure for 1 second if he needs to jump to catch the ball or let his defenders do the work. So there’s no way that’s Rebic fault and more on Fio GK mistake.

Milan lost a lot of points because of referee mistakes but the management / players / Pioli didn’t cry like this. Fio needs to learn how to take the L.

  5. I know la Viola got screwed vs Inter but come on those call were correct and bring them up won’t help their case. I guess this is the difference between great clubs and everyone else. Teams like Milan overcome adversity where teams like Fiorentina make excuses and ask for favors.
