Fiorentina deny plans to pull out of Supercoppa but Napoli don’t as Milan watch on

Fiorentina have denied earlier reports that they are planning to pull out of the Supercoppa Italiana but Napoli have not released a similar statement.

As reported by SempreMilan.it, Fiorentina released a statement on Tuesday afternoon refuting the claims, saying: “We have never communicated that we do not want to participate in the next edition of the Italian Super Cup. We deserved to play in the Super Cup and therefore we will participate regularly. We were annoyed by the rumours that circulated about us turning back.”

The initial reports were that Napoli and Fiorentina were angered by the proposed dates of the mini-tournament in Saudi Arabia and cited fixture congestion and travel as the main reasons.

If Fiorentina do not take part, it opens the door to Atalanta. If Napoli do not take part, it is AC Milan that would take their place.

Napoli still seem to be sceptical about the tournament and their president, Aurelio De Laurentiis has said: “Deficient those who want to go to Saudi Arabia to play the Super Cup. Have you seen what is happening in Israel? There could be an air blockade on those territories.”
