First week of the mercato is crucial as Raduno approaches for Milan

By Isak Möller -

The transfer window will officially open tomorrow and with several targets on their radar, AC Milan are looking to make some signings. While patience is often needed, the first week will still be crucial in a way as the Raduno approaches.

The Raduno, i.e. the first day of pre-season training, is scheduled for Monday July 8th. Paulo Fonseca’s team is expected to work closely with Milan Futuro, coached by Daniele Bonera, and it will thus be a rather large group even in the first days.

Of course, one of the main goals of the management is to reinforce the team as soon as possible. The more time Fonseca can get with the new signings, the better, and that is why next week will be crucial. If not to make signings, at least to understand when the latter will be made.

Fonseca will thus be able to plan the preparation, perhaps delaying some aspects of his game until the full roster is at Milanello. It should also be mentioned that the players currently on international duty will have a bit of vacation, set to miss the first weeks of pre-season.

Signings-wise, the No.9 role is the priority and it’s one that Fonseca will want to have scored as soon as possible, with Luka Jovic also unavailable due to international duty.

  1. We do need him if we continue playing with the 4-2-3-1 formation. RLC is not an AM and he will never be an AM. He should be pushed back in midfield where his physicality can be exploited. Although he scores some goals here and there, there are games where he is missing – and we do miss some more technical players. We need players with more technique and vision in that position.

    1. The easy opportunities he squandered with a lack of final pass or finish made it obvious to me, a person suited to that role would have scored much more or created more chances for others. He will be more effective deeper in the midfield.
