The five key battles that could win or lose the game for Milan against Juventus

By Isak Möller -

Tonight’s clash between AC Milan and Juventus is expected to be a big one and San Siro is sold out. The Rossoneri, of course, will be looking to reclaim first place after Inter’s win last night.

It won’t be an easy clash for Stefano Pioli’s men as Juventus will be eager to close the gap, currently four points behind. Certainly, there are a few battles on the pitch that could decide the outcome of the game.

The first, starting at the back from Milan’s perspective, is Davide Calabria against Filip Kostic. The Rossoneri captain has had some ups and downs in defence this season and the Serbian midfielder is a good passer, meaning his crosses will have to be shut down.

On the opposite flank, Alessandro Florenzi will be the starting left-back and he will need to be on his toes, taking on a fast Timothy Weah. He will get support from Fikayo Tomori if needed but must do a lot of the work himself.

In midfield, there are a few interesting battles but there is one that is a bit more important: Yunus Musah against Adrien Rabiot. Both players like to get forward, especially the Frenchman, and there will be some space to work with as a result of it.

Up front, Christian Pulisic is in red-hot form and while he will also be up against Kostic, there will be many battles with Daniele Rugani. The latter has decent pace but must be very concentrated to withstand the movement and dribbles of Pulisic.

Finally, it goes without saying that Rafael Leao could decide the game on his own and he will face Federico Gatti tonight. The defender is strong and big, but he certainly doesn’t have as much pace as Leao and this is something to consider.
