The five key battles that could win or lose the game for Milan against Napoli

By Isak Möller -

With just a few hours left until the big clash between AC Milan and Napoli, let’s take a look at the key battles that could decide the game for the Rossoneri. Indeed, there will be some good ones tonight.

The Rossoneri have the opportunity to reclaim first place in the standings but will have to claim all three points tonight to do so. Both sides will be able to field strong XIs but the absences of Simon Kjaer and Alessio Romagnoli should be noted.

The first battle is between Davide Calabria and Lorenzo Insigne. The latter will join Toronto at the end of the season and wants to finish in style with Napoli. Furthermore, he’s obviously very creative and Milan will have to keep him quiet.

Another battle from a defensive point of view is Pierre Kalulu against Victor Osimhen. The youngster did well against Inter mid-week but it will be a tough test tonight as Osimhen most likely will try to challenge him rather than Fikayo Tomori. This is certainly a battle that could be decisive.

Moving on, Franck Kessie is expected to start in the trequartista role and that might be wise seeing as Napoli will have Stanislav Lobotka in their midfield tandem. The Slovakian is strong physically and comfortable on the ball, so neutralising his physicality could be useful.

In attack, Milan will obviously rely a lot on Rafael Leao and the battle with Napoli right-back Giovanni Di Lorenzo could turn out to be decisive for the game. The same goes for Olivier Giroud against Kalidou Koulibaly, as any kind of leverage inside the box is always a huge boost.
