Five Milan players one yellow card away from potential suspension in semi-finals

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan have five players who are at risk of being suspended for the first leg of the semi-finals of the Champions League if they were to make it through.

Tonight Milan will be called upon to defend the advantage they obtained in the first leg against Napoli to try and clinch a place in the final four of the competition. Despite the fact that tensions are already high, five Rossoneri players will have to be careful.

Fode Ballo-Tourè, Davide Calabria, Rade Krunic, Fikayo Tomori and Sandro Tonali are all walking a tightrope as each are one yellow card away from getting a one-game suspension that they would serve in the next round.

All five will have to keep their instincts in check because a caution could cost them a place in what would be the biggest game of their career. However if they all escape a booking and Milan make it through, the yellow card count resets.

  1. Really now, sempremilan?
    That much amateurism?

There’s been a change for quite some years now, and you only lose semis & final, through straight red.
    Get your s…tuff together..
    Actually, remove the article altogether…

    1. @Vero You are conflating suspension prior to the semis and the wiping out yellow cards at the semi final stage.

A player can be suspended going into the semi final if they accumulate enough yellows at the quarter final stage. But all yellows are wiped out for all players at the start of the semis. Suspensions carry through, the yellows don’t w.r.t the semifinals. You are then correct by saying a player can only miss the finals through a red and not through an accumulation of yellows from the semis.

Get your stuff together Vero. Actually remove your comment altogether 😂

      1. As a matter of fact let me be even clearer. A player can only miss a final if they got a red card in the SECOND leg of a semi (or of course there was a post review on an incident that happened in the first leg that causes him to miss multiple games). If you get a red in the first leg u can serve the suspension in the second leg and play in the final

      1. “Cautions expire on completion of the quarter-finals, and they are not carried forward to the semi-finals.”

“This was done to ensure all players begin the semi-finals with a clean slate”

Let’s advance tonight and then bash me all you want!

    2. From the official UEFA site fanboys :
“Cautions expire on completion of the quarter-finals, and they are not carried forward to the semi-finals.”

“This was done to ensure all players begin the semi finals with a clean slate”

Let’s advance today and bash me all you want!

      1. You’re misunderstanding it. It isn’t saying the suspensions wipe clean, only the card count. A suspension obtained tonight would still apply in the first leg of the semi-finals, but then the card count resets for all players following tonight.

  2. You can still be suspended for the semi-final first leg. Only from the semi-final onwards all yellow cards will be cancelled, so that you cannot be suspended in the final by receiving 3 yellow cards.

    1. Tonali is also replaceable, more than any other first-team player. Why are you getting carried away after he had 2 good games?

  3. Just tonali i think need cautious. The others can play normally not afraid getting card because our depth can cover them

  4. Ok, so no one truly important. The guys who can’t afford to get suspended are Leao (attack is useless without him), Giroud (literally no replacement), Diaz, Bennacer, Hernandez and Maignan.

  5. For everyone who said yellows will get reset, its true. But if you get suspended before Semi’s, it will carry on.
