AC Milan defender Alessandro Florenzi has said that he sees traces of Kylian Mbappe in Rafael Leao but there is one key difference between the two players.
Speaking during an interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport today (via Milan News), Florenzo talked about the Portuguese forward as well as other players in the Rossoneri squad.
He had some constructive criticism for Leao as he thinks that the mentality of the former Lille forward could improve but there are similarities between him and Mbappe, arguably the best forward in the world right now.
“Rafa has to take a step forward in terms of his head, but not because he doesn’t have it. I’m talking about something else, the desire to stay in the game, not to dribble,” Florenzo said.
“He lacks this and it’s only a little issue because everything else is there. I see Mbappe in him, with one difference: Kylian never makes mistakes in front of goal.”
Florenzi spent time playing with Mbappe as he was at PSG with the Frenchman.
Another topic that the former Roma defender discussed was the number of leaders in Stefano Pioli’s squad and who they are.
he picked out the likes of Simon Kjaer and Zlatan Ibrahimovic amongst others who are leaders in the dressing room.
“Calabria? A captain who makes himself available and listens. A balanced person, who speaks at the right time. However, there are many captains here: Ibra, Kjaer, me, even Maignan,” he said.
On how the squad stays motivated to fight again after winning the Scudetto last season, he explained that Pioli has already addressed this issue with them.
“The coach told us a phrase: ‘Success changes people.’ We have to make sure it doesn’t happen to us. The coach is very good at this,” the Italian said.
“The magic of the Scudetto is still there, but it must be nurtured. Otherwise, it disappears.”
On who will manage to win the title in June, Florenzi refused to pick one team but he acknowledged that Juventus have strengthened a lot.
“I know I’m doing Inter an injustice, but Juve have become stronger. Di Maria is the strongest player I’ve ever played on the wing with. The favourites? Let’s say it doesn’t bother me, it will bother me if they lift the cup in June.”
