Florenzi plays down talk of Scudetto challenge: “We have to put pressure only on ourselves”

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan defender Alessandro Florenzi believes that he and his team-mates play better under pressure as they recorded a second straight win in Serie A.

Milan beat Salernitana this afternoon at San Siro to record not only their second win in a row but also their second clean sheet, something which is very satisfactory after conceding a combined seven goals against Fiorentina and Sassuolo in the consecutive defeats.

The first goal came from Franck Kessie as he converted a pass from Rafael Leao with a first time finish into the bottom corner, and the second goal of the game came through Alexis Saelemaekers’ shot into the bottom corner.

Florenzi started the game at right-back and had a positive performance overall, putting in what was almost certainly his best display so far, and he spoke to DAZN after the game to reflect on the win with MilanNews transcribing his comments.

“We have to make our own way and play with this determination. We don’t have to give signals to the others, we have to put pressure only on ourselves. When we play under pressure we do better. We make our path without looking too far ahead,” he said.

On the strength of the squad: “We are all starters, we all give our best in the game and in training. We are so sorry for Kjaer, it is an important loss both as a player and as a man. I spoke to him yesterday before and after the operation, he said day 1 to come back. I told him we are waiting for him.”

On the Scudetto: target “I don’t want to talk about it, we don’t have to give ourselves targets that are too far away. Let’s look to the next match, that is to Liverpool, we will play to the maximum of our possibilities. Will we get through? Well, why shouldn’t we believe?”
