Alessandro Florenzi has admitted that there was a sad mood in the dressing room after AC Milan’s 2-1 defeat against Liverpool at San Siro tonight.
Milan went into the final Champions League group stage hoping to secure an unlikely progression to the last 16 of the competition but knew they needed to win against Klopp’s side and hope for the right result from Portugal, neither of which ended up happening.
Florenzi was interviewed by Milan TV at the end of the game and offered an honest reflection on what was a night that simply did not go the way everyone planned.
“I have always said that the Champions League is a question of details. All the games that we have lost we have lost them by a goal and for some details. We always went out with our heads held high, we lack a bit of experience for the last step. It took us a lot to put ourselves to the test with these great teams, the goal is to go back to enjoying great evenings like these,” he said (via MilanNews).
“We were all in the locker room with our heads down, it was an important goal. There must be disappointment, the boys must be told that we have made a great journey and that it is games like these that give you the chance in the league. We came out with our heads held high in an iron group, we had our say in all the games. We must not get down, from tomorrow we have to turn disappointment into strength for the two goals we have left.
“We have to take strength in this disappointment and we have to give our best. We are a strong team, we lacked Champions League experience after so many years. We have a lot of room for improvement between now and the end of the year and we will take away a lot of satisfaction.”
