Florenzi ‘very angry’, ‘disappointed’ and ’embittered’ after dropped points

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan defender Alessandro Florenzi admitted to feeling ‘very angry’ after the team dropped more crucial points in the top four race by drawing 1-1 against Salernitana.

It was a positive night on a personal note for Florenzi in the sense that he made his long-awaited return to action after an injury that had kept him out for a few months, but he was unable to celebrate a win as well with Milan throwing away points against a team in 16th.

At half-time it all looked to be going smoothly after Olivier Giroud headed home a corner to make it 1-0, but Boulaye Dia took advantage of some poor defending by the Rossoneri to equalise in the second half and a couple of excellent saves from Ochoa prevented the hosts retaking the lead.

Florenzi spoke to DAZN after the game to reflect on what was a bitter evening for him and his team-mates, with his comments relayed by MilanNews.

You left the pitch angry: “Definitely very angry, we wanted the three points even by creating last-minute chances by throwing a few balls over the top. We are disappointed and embittered, let’s roll up our sleeves and think about the next one.”

On Daniel Maldini: “We put his head in order by sending him on loan to a place he doesn’t know, I hope he has got his driving license or is studying to get it.”

What does being back in the top eight European teams mean to you? “The history of Milan speaks for itself. It had been too long since Milan hadn’t been there, 11 years. We have brought this team back to big stages, we will try to do our best by playing our football.”

Florenzi also spoke on Sky, starting with his return to the field: “It was a good personal feeling, but it’s a pity about the draw. We wanted to win. Now we’ll start again immediately.”

On the performance: “We’ve created a lot. Maybe at other times on certain occasions the ball goes in.”

On the right flank: “There is great crowding, but that’s the way it is in the big teams. We have to do our best and listen to the coach.”

On the Champions League: “I don’t see this difference between Italy and Europe, the team always trains well. Yesterday we did a similar final session to the one before Tottenham. The matches are all different, there are many factors. We have to keep working.”

On Maignan: “The save on Dia is like a goal. We know his value, without belittling what Tatarusanu did. You always judge the last game and not things in general. Having said that, Maignan is truly a great goalkeeper.”
