By all accounts, Rafael Leao had a difficult 2023/24 season, and AC Milan will be hoping their talisman can return to previous levels in the 2024/25 season under Paulo Fonseca.
When you have a player like Leao in your team, you are at an advantage, because the winger is one of the best in the world. However, last season he fell below the levels he had set in previous seasons, a frustrating thing for the player and the fans.
Even in a ‘poor’ season, though, the winger registered 18 contributions in Serie A – split evenly between goals and assists – and this season, he will be hoping to return to the 20 mark, and reaching 20 goals has been a long-term aim for him and Milan.
Nevertheless, under Fonseca, there is a chance to grow further, and he will be pivotal to any successes that the Rossoneri have under the reigns of his compatriot, and Fonseca has already stated that he will be central to his plans.
After the 25-year-old returned to action for the Diavolo, Fonseca spoke about how important he could be this season in his post-match press conference.

Teach him to be a team player and he’s a big player. Pioli couldn’t do that, or doesn’t want to as to forever continue depending on his individual brilliance ALONE. He’d either be taking men on by himself or strolling around by himself.
I could live with his lazy attitude if he scored 20 goals per season and had 10 assist aswell. But watching him disapear in matches and come up with an assist late in the game has been very frustrating to me. But he is our star and I just wnt to see him become better. I think he will play different under fonseca and become more lethal.
Any REAL Milanista would be excited to hear this. Leao is our difference maker, big ticket item, “super star” player and we should only want the best for him which obviously means the best for our team. I would like to see a more complete season from him for once, he is too inconsistent and goes missing for chunks of the season.
Even in a “poor” season he does so much for this team. Just having his presence on the left side opens up the center and right side and allows Pulisic to take advantage of the single coverage. It would be crazy to sell him.
Yeee, Leao is big problem, I don’t know what are you thinking guys but in my point of view nothing will change, his style is the same in each year, I’m tired of waiting when he finally when will it bloom?
