Sky: Fonseca yet to decide left-back after Genoa hypothesis continues

Paulo Fonseca is still in the process of making decisions about his team ahead of the Hellas Verona clash this weekend and it seems he could consider some AC Milan youngsters.

With Theo Hernandez’s form so far this season, a change has been needed at the back, but there has not been a clear answer on how to solve the issues. Filippo Terracciano has been trialled in the position, but Fonseca quickly returned to the Frenchman.

Last weekend though, the Portuguese opted to look to the Primavera after calling out some of his senior players and he finally made a decision to trial Alex Jimenez – a move that has been being called for by the fans for some time.

In a game with few positives, Jimenez shone and he looked very capable of being a deputy to Theo, like called for during the summer by Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

Reports today have suggested that Theo has been impressing in training this week, which would make a return to the squad possible, but not guaranteed. This afternoon though, news has come to light about the solution trialled in this morning’s training session.

As Sky (via Francesco Nasato) reports, the Spaniard was trialled at left-back in this morning’s training session, which suggests that he could be the one to start the game, which Fonseca did not deny in his pre-match press conference.

  1. It should be Jimenez of course only that Theo play second half Theo plays second half. But we need to start liberali then second half Reijnder play as attacking midfield then vos should replace liberali and support Fofana.

  2. This isn’t complicated. If Theo is showing effort in training, let him return to LB and we can use Jimenez at RB. If Jimenez continues to grow then he becomes the solution we’ve been looking for at RB and it’s case close. Royal can become the backup, and in the summer a real LB backup can be brought in. If Theo goes down with injury or suspension, Jimenez can move to the left and one of the two backup RBs (Royal and Calabria) can play until Theo returns.

  3. What the coach needs to do is play Bertsaghi as the left back, then put Jimenez as the right winger, let’s see how he plays…..he will definitely be an upgrade on Chukweze.
Then place Rejinders as the attacking midfielder, use either Zeroli if he has recovered, or Vos in midfield with Fofana, we need to give them confidence, they are the future..

  4. bartesaghi isnt ready yet it’s an easy solution jiminez at rb and theo at lb now we wont have to deal of the mistakes of emerson

  5. Move Theo to RW and let him play opposite of Leao. If Bale could move from LB to LW, why not try it with Theo since he can’t defend to save his life

  6. Jimenez is a RB, so let him play as a RB. For me it was a blatantly obvious choice since I’ve seen his play in pre-season. Instead they wasted money on a dead-wood like Emerson.

As for Bartesaghi – he shouldn’t even play as LB being 1.88m tall. Try him as a CB.
