Fonseca delivers expletive rant about player communication: “I’m not an actor”

Today, Paulo Fonseca spoke to the media ahead of AC Milan’s fixture against Udinese, and the Portuguese head coach certainly delivered an interesting press conference.

It has not been the start that Fonseca would have dreamed of when he joined Milan in the summer – after all, he has only led the side to three competitive victories in his first nine games in charge. For this reason, questions about his job are repeated, as are questions about his control over his squad.

Today, when Fonseca spoke to the media this afternoon his hold over the dressing room was questioned and he was quite animated in his response.

Is your quiet leadership from the outside misunderstood?

“I don’t flaunt my leadership, I’m not an actor. What I say I say inside the dressing room, face to face. If we have a problem I don’t give a s**t about the name of the player, I confront the team directly or the players who have made mistakes.”

Possibly it could be a sign of the pressure getting to him, perhaps it could just be a sign of his frustration at his position being questioned. However, it is a new side seen from Fonseca, and maybe it can be argued that hearing him speak passionately could help strengthen his position.

  1. I would have rather he had better results but have to respect the man’s honesty with the fans and grit, not an easy situation to be part of. At least someone is talking, “lion” Ibra was I guess for 2 weeks now he returned to Gerry’s “lapdog” Ibra…

His situation was already tough due to having to deal with classic Yankee “know-it-all”Gerry…
