Alex Jimenez’s situation at AC Milan continues to arouse mystery, and he could get a big opportunity tomorrow against Genoa.
As Calciomercato.com write, there is a feeling of ‘now or never’ regarding Jimenez. With Paulo Fonseca thinking of leaving Theo Hernandez out of the starting lineup for the Genoa game, the Spaniard is the natural replacement.
Or rather, he should be, because so far he has not played a single minute for the first team this season. Indeed, the favourite to take Theo’s place on the left side of the defence is actually Filippo Terracciano.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic made his thoughts clear on the 19-year-old in the summer, stating: “Theo’s deputy will be Jimenez.” Fonseca does not share the same opinion, having had him as an unused substitute on three occasions in the league, against Inter, Lecce and Fiorentina.
Up until now, Milan Futuro has been Jimenez’s arena while Fonseca has used Terracciano several times in the deputy left-back role. Jimenez will be permanently promoted to the first team, but for the coach he is further down the pecking order.
The management of Alex Jimenez is a factor that highlights the difference in views between Ibrahimovic and Fonseca: the manager goes one way, the coach the other. At least that’s how it seems.
A signal even arrived in mid-August, when – on the eve of Milan vs. Torino – Fonseca said the incoming business was done and the Swede replied as follows: “The coach is the coach, the club does the rest. The market closes when I say so.”
A few days later Tammy Abraham would arrive, in exchange for Alexis Saelemaekers, who the coach appreciated. Jimenez meanwhile wants to demonstrate his value, Zlatan pushes to have him play and Fonseca uses Terracciano, all while Valencia rumours lurk.
Can anyone answer me why doesnt he put teraciano at the right side and try him there where we have our worst duo(emerson and calabria)? Nonsense
Exactly at least give the kid a chance at his natural position, Emerson is still learning how to play football and Calabria seems clocked out at this point
I am with Fonseca when it comes to Jimenez.
He has a lot of talent but he isn’t a fullback. He can’t defend and probably never will be able to defend. Look at Theo’s example. 6 years later, he still can’t defend his shadow.
He could be a great wingback or even better a more skilled Saelemakers in that hybrid winger/wingback role that Musah is playing currently under Fonseca.
Any position on the wing where he isn’t required to be the primary defender or required to defend by himself.
A lot of fans seem to forget that first and foremost a full back needs to be able to defend. The attacking ability should be a bonus.
Defending well is a group thing. You say Theo can’t defend simply because there is no Sync in our defense. Last season Mister Pioli used Theo as a CB when all were injured and he played very well in several games. When the mood in the locker room is bad some players just can’t hide it and it affects the game.
Terra should be a backup for the pivot, he’s a natural destroyer, and has played the position before being converted. As with Pioli it seems the coach doesn’t get to say his bit on what players he has at his disposal. At least Berlusconi knew what he was talking about. Zlatan seems a bit lost.
Exactly what I said in one of the Milan fan YouTube channel “footballkush” Terra is a destroyer and I said so two weeks ago. I said that he is the destructive DM that we need. He’s a natural DM and not a full Back. Piloi converted him because we had a lot of midfielders that season.
Terraciano and Jimenez are both right backs, so give them time there, anything is better than Emerson.
Bartesaghi is the option we should se at LB
But hey at this club nobody plays in their positions, the management collect random players who don’t fit our needs or system and the manager is as stubborn as an old goat
Exactly my thought. Bartesaghi should be given chance. It is too bad that once he got the chance, the referee gave him unfair red card (forgot which game). That might destroy his self confidence and coach’s trust.
Yes we know Theo deputy is Jimenez but sometimes Jimenez needs to feature in the first half while Theo should rest.
I can not fathom how we loan out Kalulu and bought Royal. If we Salarmaekers and Kalulu we would have okay on the right back position. Royal is a waste of resources.
Milan has just one problem which is Zlatan. He is full of himself. He should control his home instead of coming to destroy Milan
