After clinching the third consecutive win in the league, beating Lecce 3-0, Paulo Fonseca was understandably happy as he spoke to the media afterwards. He admitted that it wasn’t easy after the big game last weekend but that his players responded well.
It was important for Milan to build on the derby victory and although the performance wasn’t brilliant throughout the 90 minutes, they showed just how prolific they can be. Some of the stars stepped up and after that, the Rossoneri hit cruise control.
Speaking to Sky Italia after the game, as cited by MilanNews, Fonseca shared his thoughts on the performance. He also praised a few players before previweing the upcoming game in the Champions League.
On the game…
“After the first two games, I didn’t expect this moment but that’s why football is beautiful. Things change positively or negatively in 90 minutes. We are here, it was important to win after the derby, continuing to win was very important today, because returning to reality after the derby was the most difficult thing but the players understood it and we won well.”
On Fofana…
“He’s an important player. I think the whole team has evolved in the last few games, not just Fofana who is doing well and gaining confidence. I feel he’s growing and is more important for our team.”
On Leverkusen…
“It will be a totally different game. We were unlucky because we are starting with two teams who are very good in Europe. We played against Liverpool who have an almost perfect positional game and now Leverkusen who are the same, maybe even better. We know it will be a very difficult game, I didn’t watch much of Leverkusen as I was focused on this game. Now I’m going home and I’ll start preparing for the game against Leverkusen.”
Morata and Abraham together: for tactical reasons or for their generosity on the pitch?
“Both things, first because Morata’s characteristics allow me to use him in that role, between the lines. If we didn’t have a striker with Abraham’s characteristics this wouldn’t be possible. And then this energy is what I like the most, the one that Alvaro and Abraham bring, which is contagious. Today we saw a Rafa who worked more because he followed these examples.”
Milan will be up against Bayer Leverkusen next, more specifically on Tuesday, and Fonseca will be able to field a rather fresh team. Indeed, tonight’s game didn’t exactly drain the energy levels and this was perfect for the Rossoneri.
Ao I see no commentts from all those Su ject Matter Experts AKA cry babies.
Now there is a radio silence but god forbid anything but awesome Milan display and then they come live.
Nice, you may as well change red to blue, we dont need you. You can also possibly join Krunic
things didn’t go as they should have… he finally used our best 11, benched RLC, and uses more Futuros…
the complaints that most of us had, has been met… why should we continue to post anything?
less than perfect and what happened in the first 2 games is to say that nice steak and eggs is same as pile of $hit (they weren’t a team back then)
so judging by smugness and comments, the only self proclaimed expert here is you, buddy…
loser De Zerbi fans like you are now coping lmao
Oh so I see, judging by best 11, we do have good players and a squad. They are not all shit.
Why comment here for less then perfect, vause that what true fans do.
I see the American Cardinale, Ibra all those other guys that make decission somehow in the meanwhile learned how to spend their money and do their jobs… I see
FYI I was a fan of Milan for as far as I remember, good or bad I tried to see best. Galliani on e said, Real didn’t win anything for over 20 or 30 uears and they were still the best team in the world.
I am not against constructive chriticism, I am just sick of people that use tuktok as source of information and come here and make coments like yours above and think somehow they belong and have a say on a boardroom table. That you ha e to somehow respectfully earn, and when you do there is accountability there.
But yeah sure free for all, go for it, just do not pollute the air

Not much different with folks like you, when things went well you appear barking everywhere but if the opposite then you dissapear, its good if this team can be consistently play the way they did against Inter but we’ll see, i’m happy if they did but if not then i will also demand change.
imagine that fans are happy when things go well but loser Inter fans like you only appear to celebrate losses
which do you think sounds better? Think hard
I would name you but there are too many of You’s
Write another 12 pieces of the same comment. 😀 You finally have a point, first time in life? It sees like that.
I must say he is improving leao on his overall game. To make him train just on his defensive duties I love that. And he’s also right that football is beautiful because a week ago we all expected and wanted fonseca fired and he has since recovered.
Morata is a brilliant player, exactly what this team needed. But once again fonsecas words are right. What Morata and Abraham bring to this team is contagious. This team in the last two games look so united and motivate each other every way they can. Even finally leao and theo are starting to see it and have taken to it. Keep going on like this boys because if you work hard and stay united this team can find success. I hope against leverkusen we show our true selves!
Morata is really growing on me… After Pippos, Crespos, Girouds, Ibras and now Morata, this one “old” striker per generation is a must for Milan
There have been many negative comments and criticism but after 2 wins these have faded very quickly. I think Fonseca is doing a great job in getting the players aware (and awake) so let´s hope he can continue on this path. Probably there will be bumps on the road but it looks like Fonseca has the football intelligence to find solutions. Changes were necessary and he seems to make the right ones. So it´s not the silience of the critics on this matter that bothers me. What I do want to say to the critics: you were judging the transfers way too early. Morata is a great player, Abraham has the finest technique, Pavlovic (who did struggle against Liverpool) has a beast modus we will need and Fofana is quickly becoming the missing link in midfield that we needed. The only questions I still have are about Emerson. He seems really timid on the field and I´m not sure he´ll grow. Even the choice for Fonseca seems to be the right one. We can´t forsee the future, but it´s clear that Fonseca has the right feeling with the squad so let´s hope the results keep coming. However to the critics: judging new players after only the first few games is always wrong. They need some time to find their place. In the end we do seem to have the biggest problems with some of our existing players rather than with the new ones.
This is what I said multiple times. When there is an actual team that is playing around Leao he will be a beast.
Lazy star who comes to games half baked. Better to sell him in Jan
I have said many times, hopefully the coach reads this affirmation. Milan DNA is twin strike force. Keep it up. Bench Leao if he wants to be lazy star.
Agreed
This is something Berlusconi always asked from their managers. Spot on!
We look different when we play like that, and we somehow forgot Milan DNA, if you look at other teams ie Real, Barca, Bayern they all have their signatures even when down or up, we somehow lost ours
Berlusconi knew his Milan and understood football
Morata was fantastic . I know he would be perfect for us. Yes everybody wants Zirkzee but Morata bring energy and experience. Abraham also good but need to start scoring because for now he miss to much . After first 3 games we finely start playing something different from Pioli times
When you also think strategically, in due time we also habe one of the most exciting and talented CF players in our team, that needs to be alongside players like this to learn.
Cardinale has the winning strategy that is rock solid, you add the new stadium and we will be set to go where we always were, compete with Real eventually again.
No matter how much i like San Siro, I habe to say Sala and his Bandidos are responsabke for what is coming not Cardinale
