AC Milan head coach Paulo Fonseca will reshuffle his team again for tonight’s game against Hellas Verona amid an injury crisis in attack.
As La Gazzetta dello Sport (seen below) writes this morning, Milan will show up at the Bentegodi tonight with eight injured players: Alessandro Florenzi, Ismael Bennacer, Luke Jovic, Christian Pulisic, Yunus Musah, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Noah Okafor and Alvaro Morata.
The Spaniard is the latest to unfortunately join this list and will miss the trip to Verona due to tonsillitis. With all these absences, the line-up choices are almost obligatory, but once again Fonseca finds a way to surprise everyone.
The Portuguese coach will keep Alex Jimenez at left-back in place of Theo Hernandez, who will therefore start from the bench again as happened against Genoa last Sunday. The most surprising news is undoubtedly an inclusion in the starting XI for Filippo Terracciano.
As per the paper, the former Verona man will in fact form a pairing in midfield with Youssouf Fofana, while Tijjani Reijnders will be moved up and play as an attacking midfielder given the absence of others in that role.
It means that Mattia Liberali will start on the bench, like his Milan Futuro team-mate Francesco Camarda. Lorenzo Torriani and the midfielder Kevin Zeroli should also help fill the bench.
Jimenez was among the best performers in a poor game against Genoa so keeping his spot is perhaps warranted, though it does go against the suggestions from Sky that Theo was set to start after responding well to his benching.
I like Rjeinders as the CAM. Liberali seemed too young in the last game.
Keen to see how Terracciano goes.
I’d play Theo with all the experienced players missing. Jimenez at RB.
You know, there is a difference between making bold decisions and winning (like Pep), and between making “surprising” decisions and to show one of the worst games ever.
If he already lost the squad, and can’t make up for it with the young players, there’s really no justification for him to stay.
So I really hope he has been giving an ultimatum until the end of the year
This is good, if only Jimenez could replace Chukwueze on the right as a winger, with his direct running, use Barthsaghi as the leftback….Liberali is good, but he seriously needs to bulk up…
Rest Fofana or Reijnders. One of them has to rest I think and can come on if we still aren’t winning. My pick would be rest Fofana.
And Jimenez should be starting as RB over Emerson Royale. This is a no brainer. For the live of God bench this guy. And then start Chuk over Musah as RW. Its a tactic for when we play stronger teams not weaker ones.
Fofana is one yellow from suspension.
I assume he will keep playing until he gets a rest via suspension.
Fofana would be wise to get a yellow card suspension and get a break. LOL!!! as would Reijnders. Seems about the only way those two can get a break.
