Football Insider: Milan battling Arsenal and two rivals for Lille star on expiring deal

There is expected to be an intense race to sign Jonathan David given his contract situation at Lille, and a report has claimed that AC Milan and Arsenal are among the sides interested.

David has been linked with a move to Milan in each of the last few windows but it feels like a decision on his future beyond the end of the season is imminent given his deal expires next June, meaning he can sign a pre-contract in January.

According to Football Insider, Arsenal are keen on signing the 24-year-old in the January window and they are joined by the three biggest Italian clubs Milan, Juventus and Inter who will also compete for his signature.

Newcastle United are ‘strong admirers of the Lille forward’ as well, with Manchester United and Tottenham having watched him keenly before investing in Joshua Zirkzee and Dominic Solanke respectively.

David has seven goals and two assists in 11 appearances for Lille this season so far across all competitions, while his overall record is 91 goals in 194 games for the French club so it is easy to see why he is attracting such widespread interest.

From Milan’s point of view a lot will depend on the futures of Tammy Abraham – who signed on a dry loan on deadline day – and Luka Jovic who is on an expiring deal. The chance to land a long-term target on a free or in a cut-price deal might coincide with either or both of those two not returning.

  1. OK, so jovic out and we’re looking for David to replace who? Abraham? Or to play second fiddle to Morata and third fiddle to Tammy? I don’t get it.

    1. Tammy and Morata aren’t the most injury free players… you don’t have any cover for them except for Jovic and maybe Okafor, but then it leaves Leao without a sub (RLC isn’t a sub at all, he and Morata are doing completely different things and only Morata’s version works).

also, we don’t even own Tammy, hopefully we keep him but Roma can also can make the deal impossible…

I don’t get why you are complaining, lmao…

      1. I guess maybe you not understand a difference between complaining and asking a question?

If Tammy is gone it makes sense. But maybe it’s too early to judge?

    2. We usually complain we don’t sign players but now we’re complaining about signing signing a quality player for free. Love this page😂

    3. It would probably mean Tammy would go back to Roma. It’s a dry loan and while there have been some rumblings of us signing him, I think Roma will ask for 25-30M. Meanwhile, David would be a free transfer. So you know how this goes. Then, in terms of tactics, as you can see, Fonseca has no problem playing two strikers together, so David would play together with Morata.

  2. I am a fan of this player and believe that he would bring healthy competition to our team, making us more competitive. He is currently 24 years old and approaching the peak of his career. I would prefer for this deal to be finalized in January.

  3. Let’s see if the beloved salary cap finally allows to sign a top free agent. I bet he’ll sign with Inter.

  4. Why will David come to us? He is great player and need play at club were he will no.1 not here 3rd choice. At the end we dont have money for player like David, maybe we sell Hernandez to buy him 😂😂

  5. Abraham is on a 1 year loan. Who’s to say what will happen next summer, but Jonathan David is one of Canada’s top players — worth a look if he can get good playing time. He would battle Pulisic for playing time as they both play similar roles (David can go on the wing, and as a 9 or 10).

  6. If there are other teams trying to snatch him, forget about him. We know that we very rarely win these competitions for a player. We usually lowball, stall, delay… until another faster and/or richer club snatches the player (or the coach) first. It has happened over and over and will happen again in the case of Jonathan David.

  7. Nah, if he’s free, it only means that we have even less chance to get him. Free players usually demand a (high) signing fee and there’s this salary war. And both of those are really not our forte.
