Former Ajax player has ‘zero regrets’ over not joining Milan in the past

Former Ajax midfielder Riechedly Bazoer has said that he has no regret about not signing for AC Milan seven-eight years ago when he made the move to Wolfsburg.

Speaking to Gianluca Di Marzio (via Pianeta Milan), Bazoer talked about one of the biggest transfer decisions that he made in his career.

He was a youngster at Ajax and had the opportunity to move to a new team, with Milan supposedly being one of the clubs that had shown a serious interest. He opted to sign for Wolfsburg instead in the Bundesliga.

He was asked if he is still happy that he made that choice and he explained that it was the best experience for him at the time.

“I think so because I am someone who never regrets the choices he makes in life. It was time to leave Holland and then Germany improved me as a footballer. If today I am the player who I am is also thanks to that experience in the Bundesliga,” Bazoer said.

Bazoer currently plays for AZ Alkmaar in his native Netherlands but he explained that Milan and Juventus had tried to sign him when at Ajax.

Whilst he clearly has immense respect for Milan and referenced the fact that Tijjani Reijnders moved from AZ to Milan, he stood by his original decision to sign for Wolfsburg.

“When I was at Ajax and I decided to leave there were many clubs that wanted me, including Milan but also Juventus. But here too we are talking about 7-8 years ago. Of course, I would have liked it a lot because Milan is a giant club. And then many Dutch have worn that shirt. The last to take that big step was Tijjani Reijnders. But I have zero regrets. In life you should never have regrets, everything happens for a reason. Today I’m at Alkmaar where I’m very happy, I feel really good here,” he explained.

The 27-year-old cost Wolfsburg €12m at the time and he ended up having loan spells at FC Porto and Utrecht before eventually joining Vitesse, and then AZ.
