Former defender insists Icardi is not a ‘fantasy signing’ for Milan

As Zlatan Ibrahimovic is expected to leave in the summer, AC Milan are looking for a striker on the market. On the lookout for a quality name, Mauro Icardi has been named as a possibility for the Rossoneri.

The Argentine striker is currently on loan at Paris-Saint Germain, and there is a €65m release clause in his contract, per Sky Italia. However, should they decide to send him back to Inter, then Milan would keep tabs on the situation.

In an interview with SportMediaset (via MilanNews.it), former Milan man Fulvio Collovati spoke about the rumours. The defender, who made 193 appearances for the Rossoneri, insisted that a move to Milan shouldn’t be ruled out.

“I think the negotiations are possible. I don’t think it’s a fantasy signing, the only thing that makes me think a little is situation that now surrounds football. The transfer fees must be reduced now.

“The football world can no longer afford crazy figures. I hope the upcoming market will be dominated by swap deals and opportunities, and Icardi could certainly be an opportunity for Milan,” he stated.

However, it certainly wouldn’t be an easy operation, and most likely one that could upset the fans. Icardi’s relationship with the Nerazzurri fans isn’t exactly great, while the Rossoneri fans more or less only have painful derby memories of him.
