Former Milan goalkeeper says Donnarumma ‘should play for a top club’

By Isak Möller -

In recent days, with there being no games to write about for the media, rumours regarding Gigio Donnarumma’s future have once again started to surface. Then again, the goalkeeper’s situation at Milan is far from certain.

As reported by SportMediaset earlier today (via MilanLive), three clubs are following the situation of Donnarumma with great interest: Paris Saint-Germain, Real Madrid and Juventus. In fact, they are all ready to make a move.

Speaking to MilanNews.it, former Milan goalkeeper Mario Ielpo shared his thoughts on the future of the 21-year-old. In his words, considering the high salary that Donnarumma has, he should be playing for a top club.

“All of us Milan fans are hoping that he will stay. In my opinion, Gigio is no longer just a talent, he’s a complete player. He’s an important point of reference, despite his young age.

“He receives a top salary and thus he should play for a top club, not for a club that is struggling to get to Europe. So either Milan will level up and afford a great player like Donnarumma or they will be forced to sell him,” he stated.

The youngster’s contract with the Rossoneri will expire in 2021, which means that a decision must be taken in the summer. If an agreement can’t be reached on the contract renewal, then there is only one option left: to sell him.
