‘Among the best’ – Former Milan target De Zerbi’s prediction for Estupinan

This week, it has been made known that AC Milan are trying to sign Pervis Estupinan. However, it may not be easy after some comments.

Signing a full-back is difficult enough, without considering the past that Milan have had. On the right, they have failed to upgrade for a few years now, whilst on the left, finding a successor/deputy for Theo Hernandez has been rather miserable.

Of course, things change. As we have seen with the hiring of Igli Tare, perhaps there is a chance for the trend to be reversed. Perhaps, Estupinan can be the start of that. This week, the club sent their first official bid, reported to be in the region of €14m, which seems ridiculously low.

‘One of our secrets’

That fee seems even lower when you consider words from Roberto De Zerbi, two years ago, stating he had significant potential, as PianetaMilan recall.

“I have to admit that Pervis is one of the most important players for us because he started out as a left-back, but you can also find him as a striker. He’s very intelligent; I think that’s one of our secrets.

“He’s improved his first touch and passing, but I’m always pushing him further. If he gets his first touch and passing skills right, I think he can become one of the best left-backs in the world.”

Whether that same potential exists, remains to be seen. However, the Rossoneri could revive his spark, if it is needed.

  1. And in the two years since then, he’s been mainly injured.

Sometimes that gamble works, like Pulisic, other times it can backfire, like RLC last season.

Good player but we will just have to hope he can stay fit. I’d prefer a more reliable one like Garcia but if PE comes here then he probably has a higher ceiling if playing at his best.

  2. He is really good when he plays. But has missed like 20-30 games in two seasons alone. Has a lot of injuries. And Milan needs a fit player because we never have luck with that.

I will back him if he comes but his fitness record is very worrying.

  3. In that 22-23 season , pervis is one of the main reasons brighton got into europe , and topped the table in the qualifying group, he was a brilliant player in RDZ,S first season . In his second season he got injured . Still worth having , with european and international experience !
